Not worth spending money on. it makes your machine illegal and ties up a lot of cash in quarters.

You can find this information free on the net.

It's illegal in some areas, you could buy another machine for what it would cost to fill one with quarters and tokens are cheaper!

and if you lose a few tokens, who cares?

Why try this, when the information is free if you really want to do it?

First pervataru, you being a PA resident, it will make your machine illegal.
Second you can buy another for the price of filling up the machine with quarters.
Third and the one that makes you think is...YOur buddy comes over, has 3 quarters in his pocket, drops em in and hits a big bonus, does he get to put those winnings in his pocket? Now you have to come up with another 300+ quarters to replace what he won. Noone wants to take tokens home with them.

This is my personal opinion, or of the voices in my head, and are not meant to reflect the opinion of this board.

Actually I'd be tickled to take tokens home with me.

The other half and I went to Shakey's the other night and some kids left a few tokens on the table (they have a token arcade). We popped back there and dropped them in the coin pusher. We walked out with about 50 tokens to add to one of my pachis.

Of course, they'd freak if they knew we took their tokens, but they were a much better prize than the crap you could trade them in for. I don't really need a sucker on a ring after all.

Oh I wasn't going to do it; my neighbors are uber nosy and are freaked that I evaen have a slot machine much less two and a now the pachiko, IF I even thought of doing it I would have the cops, gaming commission, ATF (cause I'm over 21 and have a bottle of wine in the fridge), and maybe the local priest (the evils of gambling you know) at my door in 2 seconds. I was just wonding if anybody has ever done it is all. I too Frugal (read as CHEAP) to risk loosing money lol.

From one of my Casino Operator forums they stated that most of Vegas has moved away from coin not solely for salary reasons. They still need people to fix printers which are always running out of supplies (ink paper) and are now more supceptipal to people spilling liquids in them. The simple reason is that too much money simply goes missing even with elaborate controls in place.
This is why many arcades have done this too. Too many coin mech problems means too many people have keys.

I tried running my on quarters for a while and found that hopper jamming was a bigger problem than simply modifing the coin mech.

From a purest perspective...Japanese don't use money in their machines they use Tokens. IF you want a cash casino I might recommend putting in a bill changer that spits out tokens. This keeps you legal...

....and you can control the denomination of the coin without modifing your machine....

One of the issues for smaller casinos is that they have penny, nickel, quarter, 50c, dollar, 5 Dollar and other denomiations. IF they go token then they fight with the hardware. If they go TITO (ticket in, ticket out) no additional work is needed.

I am sure the sound of coins dropping will soon be available in MP3 format so that they can virtualize that too.

Is there a reason that the "party line" here seems to be: "Go check 'Google/Dogpile/etc'", rather than just having a sticky with the sites that detail the conversion process for free? I recognize I'm a newbie as far as Pachislo goes, but I'm not a newbie when it comes to enjoying the freedom to choose how I want to configure something. After all, isn't that what's so loathesome about Bill Gates' take on computer customization - the fact that BIG MS decides how your computer should be configured, rather than you? Obviously the popular position here is TOKENS good, coins bad. OK. I get it. But by the same token, (no pun intended) why keep going around and around with the coin/token conversion issue. As Davis noted above, it runs about 50% with the folks she's selling machines to. And IMHO, that's not an insignificant number. Personally, I'd like to have one machine that uses quarters, a la the "piggy bank" model. I have no idea, but I would find it pretty nitpicky to get busted for having a personal piggy bank full of quarters as long as there was no gambling involved. So I did the Dogpile search and found a couple of links. My question, out of courtesy, is whether or not it's ok to post those links for convenience to others who are interested, or not. I respect whatever the mods come back with.

    I think it's because it's a legal issue.

This site is here because of the love of pachis, not gambling.

Although I am not an expert in this area, I think the term is CYA. The general idea is that these machines are a hobby/interest and the forum supports that idea. When money comes into play, it could become a gaming issue...if that is what you want, the information is readily available to you outside of this site.

I bought my first machine from E-bay, not knowing anything about them. It stated it was a "Quarter Only' machine which is why I bought it. When I found this site, I found out that this machine should never have been sold on e-bay because of legal issues. I have since purchased 2 other machines that are Token Only and I prefer these. I have had to explain too many times that the quarters in the machine are MINE...play with them, but LEAVE them. People seem to think that if they drop a few quarters in, they are entitled to take a whole lot out. With TOKENS, that is not an issue. Just my thoughts.

Skay......I think the reason we don't post such information is: That there is a constant battle over the illegal aspect of this hobby. And we attempt to promote the postive sides of this. So we exclude those links.

Thank you for your clear, straight forward response. I understand, respect, and support any attempt to help protect a fine-line/razor's edge type of endeavor/hobby. I guess everyone else is saying pretty much the same thing as you are, but the way you put it made it sound more reasonable and less dogmatic. Are you a mediator, by any chance?
