Default Azteca the Legend Returns Key problem !

Well, I think I finally did the inevitable, I locked my key inside the machine last night after taking apart the reel assembly. I read mentions here before of a way to unlock the cabinet from the back?

On this machine in particular there isn't a hole in the back like on my other 3 machines, although there is the holes where the handles are on the side. Is there anyway I can get this thing open without the key?

    ANy help appreciated!

there should be a hole in the bottom that you can reach up into and pull the levers down

The hole in the bottom might be covered with a veneer sheet. Just push it in with a screw driver around the edges. Another possibility is that they didn't cut the hole out in which case you can drill it out around the edges. Look at your other machines. Also, take a piece of heavy wire (heavy coat hanger or similar) and bend a 90 degree bend (1/2"). Using a tiny flashlight, look in one of the holes in the back and push hook down inside machine.

I've done all of these. I've got a flashlight with a fiber optic head that works well.

Arby, you're not far off the mark

Some of the machines I recieved didn't have a hole in the back or bottom.

So, you take a hammer and tap tap tap on the back until you find the 'weak spot' (that 4" square hole on the back that we are all familiar with...). The wood is very thin in that spot, and will crack easily...

Ok guys I'm not home to take a peak at the moment, but look forward to messing around underneath with sharp objects

Question though, if I can get "into" the machine through a hole, how exactly does it open from the inside? Someone mentioned some sort of handle? SHould I just start fooling around with the inside of the lock? Or is there something somewhere inparticular I need to pull.

Once you get it open, put your key on an elastic cord and attach the cord to the back of the machine. It's almost impossible to lock your key in the machine when you do that.

OH and do remember to turn the power off and disconnect from the mains before you start poking around and waggling a wire coat hanger around in there.

I know it's obvious, but someone had to say it.

    Good luck.

Yeah the machine I just bought from Milt has the key attached to the back, great idea and I will be doing that.

Curious though, no one responded with exactly how I open the door from the inside once I can get my hand or a coat hanger in there. What am i looking for with my hand/coat hanger? Will it be at the lock mechanism? What should I feel for?

The bar inside that has the two hooks that lock the door need to be pulled down or on some machines raised. It is on the door

Arbycoffee photos should help out. Also, I automatically unplug the machine before I do anything but I forgot to say it. Milt's coiled cord is the best prevention method I've found.

Turn on side and drill a 1/2" hole 3" off the lock corner both ways and use a coat hanger to go in and pull the bar

You know, it's a rare time when I have to be the voice of ease....

If the key is in there and you have a hole in the bottom of the machine (or put one there), why go to the bother of tilting it over and reaching in there? Especially if you're not familiar with the locking mechanism anyway!

Here's the procedure. Lift machine at least 1 cm off the floor. Wiggle machine. 90% of the time, key will fall out hole.

Rather simple. If you're in that 10% area, the key either isn't in there or is stuck and you have to do the stuff mentioned above.

Oh, be sure to sit the machine back down before attempting to play.

I keep all my keys (tagged and labeled) on one of those retractable key holders like da janitor has.

Here is how I would go about it....actually this how I did it since I got this exact machine without a key and there was a hopper overflow bin inside.

On the back of the machine in the center above where the hopper is there is a weak spot that is used to make an opening for the token shute used by the pachislo parlors. Some parlors use this and others do not. If you tap your hammer you will hear the hollow sound over the solid sound. Now that you have found the location take your hammer and rap it a bid harder against the back of the machine and you will break through the thinner wood to make a nice round hole. Stick your hand through the hole to reach where Arby's pictures show the locking mechanism to be.

Sorry, I haven't been around much lately.. I did get the thing open after about 3 hours of sweat and frustration lol.

I didn't have a drill bit available to drill some nice holes, and I didn't seem to find any weak spot on the back (although I might just not have hit hard enough). So I was stuck with a flash light through one hole and about 50 different utensils trying to get it open..

Here is the funny parts of the evening. I saw the pictures posted above and upon looking with a flashlight, I saw something that looked like the lever... For about one hour I was pushing the damn thing up/down every which way yet the door still wouldn't open. I was getting so frustrated wondering what in the world was going on... Then I looked at the pictures again, then I had the bright idea to open up another one of my machines and try with them... Turns out that thing I had been pushing was actually the little piece that registers the coins dropping in........ Exactly.... Stupid me....

Flash light back in, find the actual REAL lever I should be shooting for... My tool won't fit... Search tool drawer... Find a Caulk gun.. Take out the Caulk canister, pull out the long metal rod that is used to push the caulk out.. Proceed to spend another hour trying to wiggly my 5 fingers and this thing through the handle hole on the side enough to get the level depressed...

Finally tied a string to the rod, and tied it around my wrist so I could drop it fully in the machine and not worry about losing it. Dropped it into the machine fully, and pulled it up to my awaiting cramped 5 fingers, finally got that damn thing open....

Utensils I tried but to no avail... Long long screwdriver, Ruler, Pair of heavy duty pliers, plastic coat hanger (not nearly enough strength in it, bent too easily), finally settled on the Caulk rod...

Never again will I lock a key inside !!! By the way, I've looked around my local CVS/Walmart and can't seem to find those cheap stretchy Clips milt uses. Anyone know a place that sells them, and what department they'd be in?
