Um, not to contradict one of our beloved leaders....

    but....

I have to contradict what Arby just said. When you drop in more than 50 tokens they come out because they never make it into the hopper. If you somehow signal that a coin went in (like with an electronic device) but an actual coin didn't go in, then an actual coin will not come out. The hopper would have to active to spit it out.

So like others have said, more than 50 (or 53) just doesn't do anything. The coin pass through device opens, but since no actual coins are being dropped in, no actual coins come out.

I was not speaking of droping in tokens, I was speaking in when you are winning it only credits 50 than dumps in the tray, I did not fully explain myself well.
What you said is correct, the tokens dropped just fall thru.
I will just stick with my balls I understand them best.

OOoh - now featuring autostop, whether you want it or not! (note: autostop is fun for ME, your mileage may vary.)

So here's the new modchip code. It uses the same schematic as the last one, except now the start lever is sensed on pin 2. My start lever was about 13v active high, so I used a resistor divider of 900k on top, 390k on bottom to give be about 3.5v active high to feed to the chip.

I needed a 1uf cap from the pic's pin 2 to ground because the ripple on that 13v line was so bad it would trigger the sensitive little pic just with noise! This gives the cool pseudo-feature that a really really fast lever tap does not get detected, so you can switch between autostop and manual stop on the fly to suck up all the possible winnings in bonus mode. I might code a few ms delay into the actual routine so this pseudo-feature becomes a real live feature in the future, but the LPT on my old PC just died so I cannot burn any more pic's until it's fixed. ;(

Anyway, here is the source code, assembled with MPASM for the PIC16F84.

Next time - random reel stop, and random time between reel stops! Oh, autostop is disabled by holding button 1 down for a few seconds. The chip still does 53 credit auto-add by holding down button 3 for a few seconds.

What the hell - I can't upload an asm file? Weird... Well here it is in zip then.

Well lookie here, I did release my modchip source code. What a nice guy I am. Wow - three years ago! Time flies they say.

Too bad my modchip was on one of those big 16f devices. Maybe I will rework it for an 8-pin device with internal oscillator.

Could be an interesting rework. I also noticed that all those Epson inkjet cartridges that we're throwing away contain an Atmel ATTiny12L. I talked to the guy at the local Longs drugstore that does inkjet refills, and got a bag of about 50 bum Epsom carts for nothing. So maybe ATTiny12 will be the 8-pin device of choice.

I mean, I'm saving these chips from a landfill. It's like a civic duty, man!

Thumbs up Re: homebrew autostop/credit add

The machines don't error when you try to insert more than 50 credits. The extra pulses merely get 'lost'. When 50 (53) credits are inserted, the machine automatically releases the electromagnet on the coin mech, allowing extra coins to fall through to the front collection tray. But, you can probably see this in the code I sent
After 53 credits, one could always use the pulse from the relay to stop adding credit, and add them later.
