Thanks Jon, I have been trying to install it on one of my laptops for the past hour or so. I sorta kinda get it & have one game that actually plays. Ive downloaded the Addams Family ( 1st on the list ) but Im not quite sure where to extract it to.
Im a little frustrated at the moment so Im going to walk away & take care of some bidnez & then come back & go over your instructions carefully.
This would be a very cool thing for those times in the truck with nothing to do & nowhere to go.
My 1st attempt was, as I said up front, probably all me. My desktop was my own build & its always been a little touchy.
Thanks again for the help. Ill let you know how it turns out...

doodude, Jon's instructions are for VP only tables, The Addams Family is a VPM table and those reguire another program along with Visual Pinball to get them to work. All tables at VPForums Download page are VPMame tables and require a ROM. There are alot of people that have troubles in getting those tables to work, the setup can be very complicated the first time. They are the most popular because they are the newest pinball tables, you know, the one's with computer chips, digital scoring, etc.

Try finding a table from the following site... You only need Visual Pinball to run any of the tables located at IRPinaball

    http://irpinball.ztnet.com/

    and then follow Jon's instructions.

Oh now I see the confusion Yep I was talking about Visual Pinball and the non rom tables. When you get into Pinmame you are getting into a can of worms for sure as then it's issues with the roms and system specs etc. Sorry Dude I thought we were just talking about running this one pachinko table that runs on Visual Pinball

Dude these are the best instructions I have found to install everything properly :

    http://www.vpforums.com/modules.php?...yes&id_cat=2#5

If this page doesn't load for you then go to the main area and you will see the link for the instructions under their main menu on the left side.

Hope these help and again sorry for me being confused

Whats the deal with the scary updated games? How does this rom thingy work?

I was going to mention the same thing as Bob but check out this link about installing Visual Pinmame:

    http://www.pinballnirvana.com/index....iewtopic&t=765

If you had one game play, I'd suggest you rename the old Vpinball.exe to Vpinball.exe.bak or something, it could also be deleted. Then rename your "VPinball-7alpha-5.exe" to whatever the renamed file was, ie "Vpinball.exe" then you will be certain that you are running the latest version when double clicking on a .vpt file.

Visual PinMame Tables require the following:
    VPM program
    VPM Table (Addams Family) extracted
VPM Rom (Grab the Addams Family rom and keep it zipped in your new roms folder, created during the VPM setup)
vbs files (VBScript files that enable VPM to run Tables, they should be extracted into your Tables folder)

I don't mess with VPM too much but I think the above is still correct..

I don't understand the scary updated games question.

How does this Rom thing work? doodude, I don't want to overwhelm you, but there are emulators available that exactly simulate almost every video game, Google MAME. Then there is an emulator that I haven't tried that recreates Fruit machines, Google FME Emulator, then there is the VPMame program that emulates the Pinball Roms. I'm not an expert, but they basically use the progamming in the ROM to run your computer like it was in the real game, right down to the cute little animated characters in DMD's (Dot Display Device) that some games use.

These guys that work on the emulators are really sharp and way above my head in talents. I would assume the same thing could be done with the newest Pachinko's that obviously have a ROM. I would say that since the Japanese are so into Pachinko's and still make them, that they would keep emulators away from their copyrighted stuff by threatening legal action. This is a grey area as to whether you can use emulators, the emulator creators say they are to be used for only testing Roms that you currently own.

If you already know what I posted, maybe it will help the next person, I really am a rookie to this stuff and at 52 yrs old, I don't understand most of it. I like the old pinball tables from the 60's and 70's

Well, this is only day 1 for my simulation learning, so if I ask a silly question, bear with me.
I understand what emulators are etc, but Im afraid I dont quite understand how they work or how I can use them to achieve the results Im looking for. Actually, Im not even sure of what results I can achieve once they are working as expected.
Im following a tutorial now, downloading the required files & taking this one step at a time. Maybe if I go slow enough...

Doo, be patient. I have to deal with this stuff for work all the time and I still thrashed around for a while to make it work. And it's still a bit fussy!

I think the installation is tedious to discourage folks that aren't used to hacking about on their system from using this stuff (and asking questions on the forum...etc.) because an install package wouldn't be trivial to do compared to all the work folks have donated on the emulators and tables, but then it looks like a "product" and folks would expect "product" support from the all-volunteer forum folks.

But this way, you have to be willing to follow all the steps, and so the users get self-selected a bit.

On the up side, the result (as I mentioned) is pretty darn cool. Like you, I discovered the VPMAME distinction, and had to follow all the extra steps to get the tables I mentioned before to work. And they aren't all perfect...

Thanks OC. I am in need of encouragement...
Ive just spent a few hours downloading, studying & configuring. Unfortunately, I havent been playing!
Even following a step by step tutorial I found myself a bit lost. It seems that when people that know what they are doing try to explain to people that havent a clue they sometimes forget a step or description that is as plain as the nose on their face but is an unknown to me. Then I find myself saying, "huh!?"
Ive given it up for now although I have the less difficult older version ready to roll.
Ill have to tackle it another day. Thanks for all the help...

I uploaded the file after an email about the link being bad in Phoenixx's post, he is going to review the descriptions. I've never used the Install Kit but I'm pretty sure it will help some folks!

Dude I have always just used these instructions so I haven't tried the new ones.
I'm curious what your specs are ? Maybe there is something there that they can reconfigure things with? I am running a lowly P3 550 with only 512 meg mem and an basic 32meg video card. I am able to get most of the rom tables to play but some are real slow etc. The Video Pinball nonrom tables all seem to work just fine so there is something in the programming of the Video Pinmame that probably is requiring a faster mhz chip than I have plus of course a lot better card than my nvidia 32 megger....

    Hello again,

You might want to try this alternate location for downloading, it is a huge file!

Here is one that is funny - a lighter(the lighter is animated also) pinball simulation runs on Video Pinball and can be downloaded at the great site Nirvana :
