Default I was given his address

I was in the local mega-store looking at new dvds,
when I met a guy looking for the Buster Keaton box set.

He said he wanted the boxset because it was the only source
of the BK film that contained a brief scene containing
a certain miniature live-steam railroad train.

I responded that his discription reminded me of a miniature train
I used to ride as a kid, when it was located in a giant municipal park
    near me at the time.

It turned out, we were talking about the same train,
and that this man was in fact the very train conductor that gave me
and 1000's of other kids very cool 20 minutes rides around the park.

Many years ago, I visited the park hoping to see the train again.
Everything had been long ago removed.
The train was gone, along with her ticket station,
track rails, and her tunnel/ night storage.
Nothing remained except the curious looking track berm.

I remember walking the now track-less berm along it's full trail.
The missing rail's spike holes, and track indentations were barely perceptible.
I had always wondered what the fate of that cool train was since then.
I remember hoping the happy little train hadn't ended her life as wholesale scrap iron.

The man in the mega-store told me the six ton model train has been
in storage in his garage for decades since being retired in 1972.
When asked, he said he hoped the train could find a new working home,
but today's litigous enviroment is unlikely to allow the coolest little stream train
to ever give laughing smiles to thousands of kids again.

    I was given his address.
My adult size won't fit her dusty warped seat planks,
and it won't matter that she'll have faded paint,
    and pine needle mouse nests,
or dried layers of dirt-flecked protective grease.
In my eyes, she'll look just as I remembered.

If you had the room, and if you had the time, and if you had the money, wouldn't it be fun to have it in your back yard?

    Good times remembered!

the trains were very small and ran on narrow gauge track
