    Default Fire Express

Anyone here know if Fire Express is a good machine? It looks awesome but appearances can be deceiving

So if anyone here has or played this machine please post whether it is fun or worth buying... Thanks

I've only known one person "Davis" on our board who's had one and he said, all glitz, no glamor.

I've got a Fire Express. The best I can say is that it looks great in attract mode. Nothing special about the play. An, unless there's something wrong with mine, the sound is pretty thin sounding.

There is a hole in the back panel for a woofer, but there's no woofer there. It doesn't look like there ever was one mounted there, and I can't seem to find any hanging wires that aren't connected. So, I am assuming that the hole is there because they use a generic cabinet for all their machines. If anyone has ever seen a speaker in the rear of a Fire Express, let me know.

I was very disapointed when mine came in, it looks fantastic just sitting there with it's lights flashing, but a few spins and it's all down hill. I have hit 777 and still nothing to get excited about, I am now looking to unload it. To make it worse, I know I over paid for it.

Worst machine I own!!!! I could not believe that a machine that looks as great as this, could play so horribly wrong. And the sound system hurts your ears. Its hissy, tinny, and not even in stereo...and a subwoofer in the cabinet would not help. I would not consider another Kitac machine due to the let down on this machine.

Now there's an honest review. Please don't forget to go to our museum site and post about it.

Four speakers, and not even stereo. What's up with THAT?!! We just got Fire Express yesterday and b/f was up all night trying to stuff the space between the speakers and the grills to make it halfway bearable. What a disappointment, to say the least. The darn thing looks fantastic in its demo mode. But as soon as you start playing, it all goes to sleep.

    This is one sorry machine.

(On the upside, we got a King Camel with three separate volume controls and now that it's not blasting me off my seat I'm liking it a lot more now.)

I find that you only really need a volume control on the bottom speaker of 3 speaker sammy machines. Even during the bonus rounds the top speakers dont put out too much.

Yeah this machine was really bad, it looked great, but it just felt like it was cheaply made! The reels woudl move really easy and the graphics on them were very cheap looking, also like they said above the sound is very poor. I highly recommend anyone who reads this to stay away unless they have some sort of connection with the machine!

Yeah; I thought the graphics on the reels looked as cheap as the thing sounded. They looked faded. And the buttons look cheap too. It's also easy to accidentally hit the "dump your credits" button, which is over in the vicinity of the coin return and is unmarked, btw. What a P.O.S., IMHO. (Even after b/f managed to stuff foam between all 4 speakers and grills, the thing STILL sounded shrill and tinny, although not quite as piercingly annoyingly irritatingly painful as before, which was like electronic metallic nails scraping/screeching down a blackboard. That's about the best thing I can say, aside from that it looks great before you start playing it.)

OK, Pachi Pals...I posted a review of this machine in the museum:

I can only hope it saves others from having to go through what we who are unfortunate enough to have purchased this embarrassment of a machine have had to endure.

Great review, pfurman! Loved reading it and you likely have done a fine community service for people who might be swayed by its pretty face. Thanks!

I went to Big Bear's site and he discusses a lot of different modes, etc., for this machine. I played it again (after duct taping over all four speakers on the outside, and that's in addition to the foam padding that b/f stuff between the speakers and the grills on the inside) and was able to at least find the sound tolerable, and the play somewhat more interesting. It made me wonder if anyone has ever tried taking speakers out of one machine (one relegated to being used for parts, etc.) and putting them into another machine; or getting some after market speakers and replacing the OEMs. I don't know if it would even make a difference; I guess it depends on whether the problem here is with the speakers or the amp/eq. I would think that as long as the speakers were 8 ohm and similar wattage rating it would not do any damage to the amp/machine, although I don't know if it would help much either. Anybody ever try it? Ironically, this machine has above average volume controls; what it needs is some sort of "eq" add on chip or something to bring that razor sharp shrillness down, and boost up the bass.
