    Default Replaced the supercap

It's a rainy day over here. I have been thinking about replacing the supercap with a battery pack for a while now so I decided to do it. I think the supercap is there for short term memory retention. I don't think it lasts longer than about two weeks. I guess it is for maintenance or moving machines around etc. I put a three AA battery pack in with a blocking diode so it won't charge the batteries while it is turned on. The supercap is 5.5 v and I think it slowly drains so it isn't constant 5.5 v so I figure around 4.5 v should be fine. Not much to say except get the polarity right and put a blocking diode in unless you want to use rechargeable batteries, then you could probably use a four AA battery holder for around 4.8 v. Just check the polarity on the supercap when you remove it. It looks like a small button battery but the small terminal is the negative (well it was on mine). I also found it was hard to get the negative wire through the pcb board so I gave up and used the trimmed leg of the diode and pushed it through the board and soldered to that or you could just solder straight to the back of the board. I will just monitor it now and see how the battery volts go in the future. Might just need to swap the batteries once a year while the machine is turned on so it doesn't lose the memory? Will swap my other two out if works.

Do you have a picture of what it looked like before. I am trying to figure out where my capacitor is and don’t see anything like a button battery.
