Modern Heiwa won’t hold balls in upper trough.

I recently picked up a modern Heiwa Pachinko machine. It appears to be in good shape with the exception of a broken foot. When I dump the balls into the upper trough they just run through and empty out. It appears to me that everything functions as it should. It shoots the balls up the playfield, plays sound and flashes the lights if you get a jackpot but since it won’t hold any balls it does not payout. I have removed the cards from the back without disconnecting the plugs and from what I can see there are no balls in the machine. On all my other older machines there is some kind of spring loaded lever I can use to empty the machine. Is there something I need to set to stop them from dropping out? One other thing does anyone know if the yellow circles on the door are supposed to light?

I don't know about this model, but generally there is a lever or physical switch you can move to dump balls from the tank. To see if that switch is open (and dumping balls), put a few balls in the tank with the machine turned off. If they fall through, then you need to flip it back to where it holds the balls. Depending on the machine the balls dump out of the back or front.

If the balls do not fall through when the machine is turned off, you're looking at the machine remembering old winnings that haven't been paid out. In that case you will have to pour balls into the tank (and they should be coming out of the front of the machine) until it stops doing that. Depending on the machine and prior owner, that may be many thousands of balls.

The balls come out the back and it does not matter if the machine is on or off. I understand there is a switch or lever that is causing the balls to dump but I do not know where that switch or lever is.

There is no lever or switch I can see there. I removed the round part on the left in the picture so I could see the tracks behind it. I believe it is the what activates when you get a jackpot. It contains a small motor that turns a rotor. It was full of balls that fell out when I took the cover off. I carefully reassembled it and the balls completely bypass it when I fill the upper tray.

Look around the place where the ball path diverts from the motor path. Could be a lever or button. on the later Heiwa. The whole top section of track moves over.

Thank you for all your help. I actually found the thing that closed the door. It’s holding the balls in the tray and paying out jackpots. Behind the upper right circuit card was a **** where I could insert a small screw driver and push a little white lever that activated a micro switch.

Played it for hours last night and it defiantly is. The lights and sounds are fantastic.I have to get it another 1000 balls though, the 500 I put in it barely deactivates the empty switch and it activates pretty quickly.

One more questions though, on the left side from the front about half way up is a micro switch that when I push it with my finger a female voice says a phrase in Japanese. It appears as if there is nothing there that might activate it. Anyone have any idea what it’s for and how it is activated. It would be cool if it did that during play or during a jackpot.
