Sankyo LOTR error code: 8

Hello all!

This is my first post on Pachitalk, so forgive me for any missing information. I recently became the owner of a Sanko Lord of the Rings Pachinko cabinet. When i first powered the unit on, it was providing a 7 error code. Cleaning out the pathway of the hopper and resetting the cabinet cleared the 7 error code, but there is now an 8 error code that I can't seem to work out.

The cabinet powers on, lights and LCD screen are functional. I can't seem to find a way to play the actual game, and I am assuming it's due to error code I am receiving. I am new to Pachinko, but I have experience with slot machines.

Has anyone had an past experiences with this error code?

Error 8 says 'Card Reader not connected'. Most all modern games require at least a 'dongle' to fool the machine into thinking a card reader is connected. How to make one is shown here.

I'm sure there are others on here that have them available, or you can go the premium route and get a card reader emulator, that allows the buttons and display to work on the front ball tray.

My brother had the machine working in the past, so I am not sure what the disconnect could be now. I will reach out to him and see if he has any memory of having to following any steps to start up the game. I will continue to play around with it and update the thread if a resolution is found.

I just spoke with my brother, and he confirmed that when the cabinet was functional, he was simply able to power on the cabinet and start playing. I would assume this means that the cabinet has been modified to bypass the card reader in the past. Any idea of what could possibly cause this functionality to change? Any switches to be flipped, or specific boards I can check?

So no dongle? Could have fallen off during transport or perhaps it has been modified to not need one. You might get/make a dongle anyway and see if that helps.

It also looks like your main board (the big one in the middle of the back to the left of the error board) is not mounted properly (loose). Next you might check that all connectors are seated properly.

If it were modified to work without a dongle the shooter would work and not throw errors. Did you confirm the dongle did not come loose? They come loose when the machine has been moved around. You need to check the dongle port; if no dongle plugged in; must have fallen off. If so; time to buy one or make one.

I guess there is a chance that it fell off at his house, and he put it away, not realizing it was for the pachinko cabinet. Seems that the easiest route here is to just purchase a new Card Emulator, which is fine. I will work on securing one.

I believe the catch that holds that board it to the right of that green plug. Probably rotates counterclockwise to release. Push the board in and clockwise to hold it.
