Default 1977 Sankyo tulip not opening/closing

This is what the tulip looks like. Is something not adjusted correctly?

Looks ok from here, outside of it not being mounted that is. Is it working correctly?

The ball just sits in the tulip and doesn’t go down

I'd remover a working tulip and compare, might have to slightly bend the seesaw tabs just a skoosh.

Like Silverballs suggested, remove it and a working one, compare the two. I'd also suggest carefully cleaning the inside brass pieces, I use a cotton swab and some Brasso. Then I use a little piece of a Miracle Polishing cloth on another swap or small wooden dowel (chopsticks work well) to help prevent it from oxidizing further help keep it slippery smooth.

The strange thing is the other tulips have a different mechanism. Do you guys see the brass rod sticking inside the tulip? That is what is causing the ball to get stuck. If I manually push the ball down it will close the tulip but if a ball lands in the tulip it just sits there. I also can’t take the tulip out because one of the screws is stripped that’s why I had to bend the tulip out like that. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks guys.

Perhaps it's a double payout type (stays open for 2 balls).
I've had a few screws with striped heads, try using a small pair of vice grips to grab the head of the screw, turn it while applying outward pressure on the tulip to force it to thread its way out.

I also think you can grab the screw head and get it going.. preferred method
Drilling is the last resort..I find the key to drilling is to just mangle the screw head enough to get the tulip off.. you still needs to twist the screw out

yes that brass piece should not be sitting on top of the tulip but looks fixable once it’s off the machine

You can also use a tap and die set to remove the screw.
