Question Ashtray covers for vintage machines

Ashtray covers on vintage machines are not a normal thing.

But, I decided to make some to see what it would look like and I think I might like it.

I cut a piece of sponge to the rough shape of the ashtray cavity and glued it to the back of the cover.
This is what holds the cover securely in place vs gluing the cover to the ashtray.

    nice one
hmmm i had an idea to 3D model a tray without the ashtray - just one continuous smooth bin - but then realized nobody would really know things had changed; people already find pachis so unfamiliar they wold just assume that's how it's supposed to be originally.

I like it! The machines I have came with silver spray paint covering up the black cigarette marks, I usually try to polish them out or repaint them, but I think this may be a better way to go.

Interesting. And they are easy to remove too. Great idea and thanks for sharing.

Did you use nickel (German silver?) or aluminum to make the cover? Very nice!

I used galvanized roof flashing, that I had on hand. It's fairly easy to work with. You can use regular scissors to cut it.

Then polished it with Miracle Cloth.

I decided I like the looks of the covers. So, I went crazy and made them for all the Nishijin machines I have. (7 machines)

Also for one Kyoraku machine and for an Arrangeball machine.

Years ago, that would have been a true statement.

Having the cover makes for a excellent place to store some extra balls.
