Newbie from Cedar Rapids Iowa looking for local help to get started

Total beginner working on pachinko machines. I have collected 3-4 machines to date. One is all metal in back.

To get started learning about how they work, is it better to try and get basic understanding about them in general or specific to each machine? I read where someone advised that this is a participation site and the more questions you ask the better. I just feel like I need to get the basics and a bit of vocabulary down before I go crazy with questions.

When I read through threads I keep thinking there mist be a beginners thread somewhere or a list of reading to do first?

Also wondering if there might be someone local to Cedar Rapids area that would help me get started with some basics. I do alot better hands on than reading and writing if you haven't noticed.

Hi John,

While I'm close to Cedar Rapids (North Liberty), I'm not familiar with vintage pachinko. I do have a few moderns and can tell you what I know about those .

Given that vintage is mostly mechanical the way they work should be fairly easy to figure out. As far as terms go and a general description of how the games work there are several threads in the forums that help with translation and game flow. The issue is finding the right thread in 15+ years of history. I've found that Google often helps more in searching for what I want on here than the actual search function of the forums.
