Hi! I am brand new to Pachinko (kind of.)

I spent a lot of my childhood in Japan. My family’s name is Narita, and we are from Nagoya. I’m told that my grandfather was involved in designing early Pachinko machines. We always had around 20-30 machines in his house, but I was so young that I have no idea which ones they were and no one else who is still alive does either. Now I’m feeling nostalgic and am on the lookout for one of these - ideally working but I’d buy a non-working one to display as an art piece, as well as any historic info that might relate to my family. Unfortunately I don’t read Japanese so it’s hard to find info in English.

I realize this is a sales thread but figured I would comment here in case anyone has ideas or leads… it’s very cool to see this here.

    and biscuits

You should start a Thread in the Vintage Pachinko area on our little Forum .

Maybe your family can share some of the stories and history of the machines that have your families last name.

Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll repost in the other section.

I wish I knew more about that side of my family - my folks got pretty disconnected when they moved to the USA. Everyone who was alive when I was a baby either doesn’t speak English at all (no blame there as I also don’t speak Japanese), has memory loss, or has died. But I’ll see if I can keep bringing it up in conversation because you never know when an old memory can show up.

I think Narita is a fairly common name and is also a place name, so I have no idea if there’s any relation to the Pachinko machine beyond geographic proximity to manufacture. Still, for me, the nostalgia factor of Narita + Nagoya on a Pachinko machine is appealing simply for the references.
