Default Model A and Model B differences help me understand

I own a couple modern machines and have started to look for my first vintage. I see mostly model B’s on marketplace and Craigslist. What is the difference between the two models and why did they change from A to B? Why do you prefer model A or model B?

Not really an answer to your question, but Dan's you videos are a good resource to browse.

Model A's are known as "recyclers" because the losing balls go back in to a tray on the rear of the machine to replenish the jackpot, whereas on a model B, the losing balls go out the bottom rear to a catch can or bin of some sort (whatever the owner has put there). So with a model B you have to move the balls back up to the jackpot tray more so than a model A. My first machine was a model A, 5 other vintage I've picked up are all model B's. IMO the B may be easier to take apart and put back together, sort of modular I guess.

Model A is superior for home use due to recycling, quieter payout bell, also the playfield art area is much bigger than model B or C and they look better in my opinion.

Model C is #2 since it’s easiest to restore with the removable rear mechanics. Model B is least desirable unless it’s a Powerflash or other special electric model in my opinion.

As others have said, the main difference is how the machine handles the lost balls.

Put a ball lifter on a model B or model C machine and it recycles the lost balls, basically making it operate as a model A.

I don't feel that any model of machine is better than the other. Though the rear mechanics may be different, they all do the same purpose.
