    Default Shooter is mis-aligned

Taking some time to look through some of my earlier rebuilds...

This one has a shooter that is misaligned - was less of an issue at the start because the spring pressure would knocj it back into the rail gap, but when triggered more gently, it hits the track instead.

The shooter is evenly screwed in and the nuts are tightened properly (took it apart and put it back to check if something wasn't obviously off).

Do I just bend the hammer to make it align? Or is there something else I'm missing?

Is the ball rail by chance loose or has it moved? Can it be adjusted ever so slightly to align the hammer?

the rail is set properly as close to the playfield as possible. i guess i could trim the opening but would prefer to try to repair via the hammer.

I'm with you, I'd try to figure out the hammer before I trimmed or modified the rail. I thought it might have just been a matter of moving the rail down 1/8" or so to clear the hammer.

    Don't bend the hammer.

Looking at the first picture, it looks like the hammer is coming through the hole in the rail, way to far. It should only come into the rail hole slightly. I would guess you need to re-adjust the position of the rubber bumper that the hammer rests against. So, it only comes through the rail opening about an 1/8 of an inch, (about what you show in your 2nd picture).

It also looks like the hammer isn't centered in the rail hole and needs to be closer to the playfield. Is this the case?

okay i will adjust the bumper and see if that halps with the hammer scraping against the inside of the rail hole.
the hammer hits the inside of the rail hole (close to the playfield) and i need it to be a little further away so it doesnt scrape.

You can adjust that by loosing the playfield from the wooden cleat. Use a cardboard shim between the playfield and cleat and tighten back.

You might also have to loosen the playfield from the bottom cleat, to get it to move.
