Default Opinions Wanted: "Original" Restoration or Custom

I picked up a single-shot Nishijin that was pointed out by @Bowl987 : Single-shot pachinko Hawaii.

While planning how I would proceed with the restoration, I looked around for the playfield art and found it at: Pachinko Restorations, 1966 Nishijin Wallpaper Background.

Initially I was thinking I'd keep it original if I could find a suitable replacement for the art but now I'm not so sure.

On one hand, the art now and the new replacement don't look bad but it doesn't say "Pachinko" to me. Ironically, if it really is called "Wallpaper", that's exactly how it makes me feel.

I realize this is my machine and I should do whatever I feel I want but I also come from a few hobbies where "Frowned Upon" is an incredibly polite way of saying "If you do that, your descendants will be forever cursed until that most blasphemous thing you did is made right!". Strangely enough, that hasn't stopped me yet though...

I figure I do want to get as much input as I can before commiting to anything first.

    TIA

If it was some super old, mega rare, never seen before, wonder pachi I'd say try to keep it original, but since that doesn't seem to be the case here, I'd say make it your own, Do it up so it makes you happy when you see it!! i

I don’t think it matters on a “dime a dozen” common type machine. If it was from the 50’s, an arrange ball, or special electric model I’d probably go with a factory style replacement however for historical preservation purposes.

The play fie!d looks like no water damage so keep it . you can get 12volt L.E.D. strip for small change to brighten the play field .

If the machine had some sentimental value to you, then I'd keep it original.

In your original post, I feel you are not really excited about the the original playfield artwork. Personally, it is pretty boring to me.

I would go with something else, that doesn't look like wallpaper. No one would even know that you changed it, if you hadn't posted a picture.

If the graphic elements were brightly colored maybe, but the Nishijin pastel graphics are pretty lame, especially after a little fading.
    Change it !!!

You bought it with your money. Do as you please. If it were something rare or noteworthy I might say leave it alone, but that does not seem to be the case here. I say go for it!

I also have a similar issue. I have a Playboy bunny costume from the 60s (because…..Of course I do)

The bust padding has gotten brittle with age and disintegrated. I’m in two minds about getting them replaced. As it will take away from the originality. But if replaced it will help to give shape back to that area.
