Default 1974 Sankyo MAX with solenoid

Got this machine from a customer in Texas to do a full restoration without a playfield replacement. My eyes were immediately drawn to the circuit board and solenoid. As I got a better look at it, I traced the wires to a micro switch down by the jackpot arm pivot.

So...what happens is that when a jackpot is made, the micro switch powers the solenoid which is attached to arms attached to two tulips. They open momentarily based on the setting of the pot.
I've never seen a machine set up this way and I'm pretty sure it was factory installed rather than a "pimp" job.

Anybody else ever seen one of these?

It's the yellow tulips that are controlled by the solenoid.

Also thinking of replacing the pot with one the will hold the solenoid up longer, keeping the tulips open longer. Any thoughts on that?

neat machine... have not seen one like that before.. what year is it???

do the yellow tulips open and close independently or only with power?? do they operate without power??

I don't see a reason to adjust/increase the timing... if you want to increase payout adjust the nails...

Not sure about the yellow tulips operating normally without power. I’m not to the testing portion of the restoration.

i single launch balls when I play. A lot of people launch balls as fast as they can....The yellow tulips only stay open for a second or two. On a single launch they would probably close before you could get another ball onto the playfield.
I’d like to have them stay open longer than a second or two.

Check out this thread, I have had 2 (sold 1), both with the Daiichi tulips. Tulips only open under power.

As I see it...they stay open for a duration to prevent single shooting. Probably to keep many balls flowing. The way you play...it would make sense. but it would likely be too "loose" when guests play it.
I have never seen one like that before. I do have a Matsuya brand machine that has a door that opens by a solenoid.

Worth a try if you can de-solder the existing one.
Check what resistance range is on the existing one.

Thanks for sharing, very nice restoration, by the way.

Ended up shipping the machine back to its owner before I got a chance to try a different pot.
