Well I think I found the problem with the shooter.

What's this part called and are replacements available?

Yeah, whoever owned this machine before me didn't exactly take care of it. Superglue won't cut it. Some pieces are missing. But I think some 2-part epoxy putty might do the trick. I might need to reinforce the spindly bits with something though.

Maybe a thin disc of aluminum, slots cut for the mounting posts, attached to the inner plastic disc and outer plastic ring somehow. There needs to be some electrical continuity from the outer part to the inner part (touch sensitive to tell the machine a persons hand is on it).

Whole thing is plastic. I'm going to see what I do with some JB Stick. Might reinforce it with something, but those little plastic spindles couldn't have been very strong in the first place.

Not sure on this vintage of machine, but normally there has to be skin contact on the outer ring for the machine to fire. Chrome plastic conducts enough for this to work.

Well, my attempt to repair the shooter didn't fix the problem. I cut some finishing nails and super glued them in place. Then I reinforced everything with some JB Weld Steelstick. Physically everything feels solid. But still no love from the shooter.

does the little thumb switch pop out when the knob is turned? It's a pause button, might check that it's working properly. Not sure if it makes contact in or out.

The button is always out. I can push it in and it pops right back out.

Nice fix, sorry it's still not working!!

I wish I knew something about shooter knobs, its probably something simple..

Sorry about the long spell of radio silence.

Here's what I see when I turn it on. Is this an error?

I don’t think so, would probably show “E-1” “E 2” or something like that.

Do the reels “spin” when you drop a ball in the start pocket?

I guess next step would be to try to make sure the repaired handle is conductive as mentioned. I’ve never heard of the “stop shooter” buttons going bad, besides occasionally getting stuck. I suppose it’s a possibility though. My guess is the He-Man that broke the shooter handle is to blame!

Compirate was right! The issue with the shooter was not having continuity from the outer ring of the shooter to the inner ring of the shooter. I temporarily fixed that by taping a bit of wire from the outer ring to the inner.

The shooter started working!! Well sort of. I have to have my hand on the shooter ring AND be touching some piece of the metal frame. Is that normal?

Also many thanks to lotsoballs and moparformances for helping me understand a little better how the shooter is supposed to work (http://www.pachitalk.com/forums/show...e-shooter-work).

Nice! Glad it’s working! It’s a pretty interesting machine, looks good!

It’s not normal to need to touch a metal part of the frame besides the metal ring on some shooter knobs, so maybe some grounding issue?

Hmmm... a couple possible culprits come to mind. One is that maybe the connection through the ring is too weak? Another is the power plug. Mine is a 2 prong US cable, is that normal or do they usually have a ground plug?

Normal to have a 2 prong plug.

Ok, then my best guess is that I'm not getting a strong enough ground connection through the repaired shooter ring. I've got some conductive paint on the way for a guitar project. I'll try using it to get a better connection between the outer and inner rings. Maybe that will make a difference? Even if that's not the issue, the wire I secured with electrical tape isn't exactly a durable or long-term fix.

It looks like there are some conductive glues and epoxies I could have used instead of the JB Weld and super glue I used. I wish I'd known how these worked sooner!

I suppose the other option is that the motor itself isn't well grounded and when I touch the metal frame I'm giving it another path to ground.

Are there parts available for these machines anywhere? I'm just worried that the conductive coating on the plastic is worn out or that the shooter ring is so damaged that it's not ever going to work right. I looked on ebay for pachinko parts and only found vintage stuff.
