Default Continental 4X token path question

Tee hee hee. I'm going a little overboard. Started with the Regal two weeks ago, just picked up a Kiwame and Continental, and getting the King Camel tomorrow. :-)

Anyway, little problem on the Continental. Approximately 50% of the coins drop out the overflow path. They register as having put in a coin just fine, but as they whip around the little curved path, they end up falling into the overflow chute instead of the hopper proper.

The whole token acceptor mechanism is a little cruddy (the machine was apparently kinda buried for a while, stumbled upon, and sold immediately). I cleaned it up as much as a few q-tips and alchohol would do, but it's still dropping them in the overflow. Any ideas on what to try? Should I just go nuts and take the whole mechanism apart and clean the living crap out of it so the tokens will move faster and 'shoot' past the overflow into the hopper?

    Thanks guys.

can you block the overflow section with black duct tape on the side of the hopper.

i did that with one of mine that i was having a problem with.

Have you tried to see if a quarter will work in it?

I don't know about the Contnental, but the ArraKing has an adjustment bar on the top of the chute. Very critical, tiny adjustments and it will do the same.

Sounds a bit like my machine when I set it for quarters and then took it back to tokens only. Make sure it is all clean and the tolerances are correct for tokens.

Ok, I've checked it out everyone's suggestions about quarters vs. token. Quarters definately just fall out through the 'bad coin' path. I don't find any evidence that it's been converted before, but it's possible.

It seems that the main problem is with the chunk of metal that the coin rolls along. It is very pitted with corrosion. I'm going to do some drawings of the mechanism so I can get it back together (what can I say, I'm an engineer ) then rip it all apart and see if I can smooth out the metal.

I'll let everyone know how it goes.

Well then, we're going to expect some very good drawings indeed.

You may want to look at the link below that shows how to make various machines accept quarters to be assured that isn't the problem:

Alrighty. All fixed on this one.

As mentioned on the Slotliquidators site mentioned above, there are two screws that hold in the metal portion of the coin track. Once completely removed the metal will slide out the side where the coins usually exit.

There was a LOT of crap on here. Some rust, some crud, some God knows what. I went at it with the dremel to clean everything off and smoothed it out nice. I then reinserted the metal piece, held it slightly with the two screws, and adjusted it so quarters will fall out and tokens JUST roll through.

I also found one other thing I didn't even know was a problem. Once you put in 53 credits and they're supposed to pop out into the payout tray, they weren't. I found a messed up spring, and fixed that up.

So the moral of the story... CLEAN CLEAN CLEAN!!!!

It works like a charm. Now I'm thinking of tackling the go level since it feels kind of rough.

My Conti 4x had a messed up spring, as well. Take a look here for pics and discussion:

slotter: Yep, that's the exact spring that was off of mine too. But for all I know I knocked it off when I removed the coin rolling track. Ah well, it all works great now. I'm a happy man.

Now I'm just putting a reset switch into the King Camel. Too bad it has this little door on the power supply to make like NO switches fit when the door is closed. Oh well, another challenge. I think I know where to look for another key switch deal so I'll have a 'real' reset key again. :-)

Thanks for everyone's thoughts on this, it's all fixed up and working great.

I had a problem with coin jams on my Cont. 4X. The tokens that Gaku sent worked fine, but I have a box of 2000 mixed tokens that I added and had coin jams every 5 or so tokens that I put in.

I reviewed the coin conversion link and adjusted the track several times and still no luck. Finally I started putting coins through with the mechanism completely disconnected from the machine and here is where I discovered the problem.

Evidently some of the coins were made of metal and they were sticking to the magnet in the coin mechanism. I used a very small screwdriver and gently pushed the magnet out. This solved the problem.

I hope this helps anyone that may run into a similiar problem
