Default Pachinko Legalities and potential shop

I've recently became enthralled with the history of pachinko and would love to know a way i can make this happen in my home state. I've done some research, mostly into Pachinko World in Wilmington, NC and how they're able to operate as a prize only setup. I live in a college town and think it would be amazing to have a prize only set up, and offer food and drinks with a comfortable lounge area as well. Are there any like minded/knowledgeable folks that wouldn't mind discussing this with me? Also, Iowa does allow full out gambling and i would dabble with the thought of opening a pachinko parlor in a full gambling sense in Iowa, but it seems as though somebody would have done that already if fully legal. Does anyone know anything about that? i can't find anything prohibitting it in the state laws of Iowa.

Thanks and i'm looking forward to bouncing ideas off one another!

    Tanner, from Nebraska.

NC doesn’t have legalized gambling; (besides Indian casinos on Cherokee lands) Pachinko world skates the gambling laws since you only can win prizes, no currency (just like in Japan) some of those prizes could possibly be visa gift cards however! Wink wink I highly recommend this place!

There used to be a SC location of pachinko world; but it closed due to slow business, subpar location, and nobody wanted to work the counter for minimal pay. SC doesn’t allow gambling either. I’d hit up the owner (Leo) of pachinko world on Facebook if you’re serious about discussing it with an expert. You could be part of the franchise!

I wonder what the legalities would be too since pachinko machines are classified as Gambling machines in some states. I'm sure a prize only payout would be legal just arcades with tickets. I know if there was a pachinko parlor here In Utah that I would go for sure.

What states specifically classify pachinko as gambling machines? (Not talking about slots or pachislo) I’m not aware of any laws specific to pachinko. At least there aren’t any here in the Carolinas.

I know that Washington has laws specifically listing pachinko as illegal since they are considered gambling machines.

Wow, what a backwards state! Jealous one can purchase a weed legally there but can’t own a freaking pachinko machine?!? (Exact opposite of NC/SC)Those poor souls; need to report every member of this site who resides there to the appropriate authorities immediately!

What a dumb law... it’s no different than winning extra balls playing pinball when used for home use.

There is a nother law that says it's okay to own a "gambling" machine if it is older than 25 years old and is free to play. I think pachinko was an unfortunate addition based on it's close relationship with pachislo machines.

I think this is one of those antiquated laws technically “on the books” but never actually enforced. I seriously doubt the state has or would ever prosecute pachinko owners.

    Similar crazy NC laws:

Oral sex is a class 1 felony. “crime against nature.”

It’s illegal to plow a cotton field using an elephant.

It is illegal to have sex in a hotel room if you’re not married. Also illegal to falsely claim you’re married. Hotel fornicators may find themselves legally married if caught in the act (despite no wedding) Class 2 misdemeanor.

I can't say I know anything at all about how things are out in Nebraska, but I do find it constantly amusing to see how my 'neighbors' in this and surrounding US "Southren" states deal (or don't) with "gambling laws", specifically those regulating various arcade type machines, which may or may not accept or reward actual cash money. (or tokens, or tickets, or credits, or whatever) I suppose the ultimate key to making a "business" of it all boils down to having the right local connections/lawyers/coughcoughwhatever in anybody's particular jurasdiction to get away (or not) with installing a row of "arcade machines" in your small town truckstop or strip mall storefront someplace...every once in awhile somebody somewhere apparently fails at that task thus a local TV news report of an "illegal casino" being raided, usually accompanied by (sad!) video of otherwise perfectly innocent machines being sledgehammered to death...

Add to that the most recent political goings-on here in The Natural State whereby the citizenry (narrowly) voted to allow the beginnings of "legal casinos" here too (as several adjoining states already do) besides our long standing horse track legality and whatnot in Hot Springs...there's a very long and well documented history of gambling laws (and the abuse thereof, that whole "prohibition" thing too?) that's gone on down there forever. One of Al Capone's (yes, *that* one) favorite hangouts a hundred yrs or so ago during that time frame, when he wasn't otherwise in Chicago...

THANKS Tanner for the fun question. (and welcome to the group too, for that matter?!) With you, I'll be looking fwd to seeing further responses from any/everyone else! :-) :-)

Someone was actually trying to open a parlor in salt lake but I don’t think it ever opened. There’s a parlor owner in japan who is really trying to start parlors overseas and might have some interest in this.

My wife is getting xferred to west valley. Good to know there is other pachinko enthusiasts in the area. I will set up my moderns when I move there. Got a 2012 era modern and a few slots.
