Default My Nishijin just stopped working

Hi - I have a Nishijin O&Y 5&15 "Obake" machine. It looks/sounds exactly like this. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aBfHO1t3rmQ Immaculate condition and very light usage. When I turn it on, the lights all come on and a relay or solenoid clicks. But when I turn the actuator knob, nothing happens. There is a "zero" showing in the error indicator box. Does anyone have any idea where I should look for a solution? Thanks!! JimPachinko back.JPGPachinko Front.JPG

You have a CR machine, so its highly likely you need a dongle unless the circuit boards have been opened and blobbed.
Check to see if you have anything plugged into the 25 pin D socket on the back. Probably in the bottom right hand of the machine

That's one of my old videos. Haven't played that one in years.

Not sure why yours would work one minute then all of a sudden just stop.

It does need a bypass dongle, which should be sticking straight down in front of the speaker (looking from the back on the lower right).

If it's clicking but not shooting then you may have an obstruction

Even without balls you should still be hearing it when you turn the knob.

Let me know if you want me to check something on mine.

Thanks Drunkenclam & Ikaria. The bypass dongle does seem to be in place, and to be clear, I touched nothing in the back except to reload balls in reward tray and unload the bottom tray. It just stopped working. And Ikaria, there is no clicking noise from the shooter, with or without balls. It is just "dead". Can anyone think of a relay or something that would disable the shooter? Everything else seems fine.
Also, there seem to be 5 status codes - 0,8,A,F,H. Mine shows 0. Anyone know what those codes mean? (Anyone able to read Japanese?)
    Many thanks. Jim

Sadly, I just used Google Translate and "0" = "Normal", so no clues from there.

Right above the 24 volt a.c. Transformer is where you need the shooter dongle .

Thanks Takethecastle57. Pretty sure that dongle is in place. And I did nothing back there to change 19 years of working to non-working. (Only an hour or 2 a year of use - so not worn out).

Have you checked the shooter connectors in the back ? I used to have one of these early moderns and sometimes there is a switch on the front of the machine behind the play field door that will stop play if the front door is open .

Many thanks takethecastle57. You are onto something. My front door does not open (I don't have a key), but in the back, behind the keyhole, is a lever. When I held that lever up, the machine worked perfectly for a dozen balls or so. So I went to get a piece of string to hold it up. When I returned, that no longer worked. Whether I hold the lever up or not, nothing happens when I turn the shooter knob

It could be the switch directly underneath the top ball tray is a little bit sticky and might need some cleaning.

You also might check you ball path from the top tray to the bottom exit in back .

Have you open the front top tray door below the play field to see that is clear and clean ?

You don't need a key. To open the glass, pivot that little metal lever up and push down at an angle. To open the full door, lift up the bottom catch and push the door out.

I did some experimenting and the only way I could get mine to NOT shoot balls was to push the pause button on the shooter knob. Even if I open the full door, the glass door, pull the bypass dongle, or run it out of balls it keeps on firing.

Here are pix of key area. The lever painted yellow is the one I pushed earlier. It is release lever for the front door panel, so that is now open too. Once in a while shooter will work, but no consistent pattern. I will look at the other things you have suggested. Many thanks !!!Key area back.JPGKey area front.JPG

Thanks. Got all those open as in last pix. When you fire with the glass door open, do the balls still drop properly or do some of them richocet outwards & land on the floor?

Intermittent issues always so hard. Found shooter would work occasionally for no apparent reason. And shoot continuously. But as soon as I released the shooter and then tried again, would not work. Have tried the little switch behind the glass door. No effect. I need to go out. Will try again tonight. Thank-you!!

With the glass door open, the balls fly everywhere.

Have you tried turning the sensitivity knobs on the shooter control?

You nailed it Ikaria! I twisted those back and forth a few times and BINGO - everything works. I guess the internal contacts had just oxidized a bit and were not making good connection. (What do those knobs actually do??)
Thank-you to everyone for all the help.

Awesome! So glad it's working again!

It's been a long time, but if I remember correctly, one controls how hard the shooter hits the balls, and the other how far you have to turn to start shooting.

Someone that knows better feel free to chime in!

Sounds reasonable to me. Both settings seem fine so I'm not going to test my luck.

    Thanks again
