Could put them all in one of those shell/fill-able lamp bases and have a pretty cool lamp for the game room.

For the record, if anybody with a big pile of 'bad balls' wants to just get rid of some of 'em (esp if they're the 'engraved' kind?) I'd be more than happy to reimburse postage for a small USPS flat-rate boxful or two...?? Once more, I don't yet actually *own* a pachinko machine, but I do remain a 'pathological collector of interesting junk', whether or not I actually have any practical reason to do so or not...?

Old thread, I know. But, I didn't see the need to start a new one.

I remove the rust and put them in gun bluing. Buff them after they are blued, using 0000 steel wool and mix them in with the shiny ones.

Very interesting concept to save the vintage engraved pachinko balls. Yes, keep us in the loop on the wear and tear .

Okay, so you guys got me thinking about these balls. I did a test today, because my thoughts were these should last a long time. Because, unlike painted balls, were the paint could chip off, the bluing would have to wear off and that should really take a long time for that to happen.

I took 10 balls and played them in my Route 66 machine, because the machine is a full cycle machine and I could just keep playing these 10 balls over and over.

On the average, I can shoot 90 balls per minute. I played for 10 minutes, so that's 900 balls fired in that 10 minutes, 90 times for each ball.

I did this 10 times, shooting on the average 90 balls per minute. So, each ball was launched/struck, on the average 900 times.

Here are some before and after pictures, I really see no difference.

I have been having some very good results cleaning and shining old and rusty pachinko balls.

Here is the process I've been using.

I put about 250 balls into a 2 quart tumbling container and I spray them with Awesome cleaner, (about 20 sprays), add a couple of teaspoons of Bar Keepers Friend and 2 drops of Dawn dish washing soap. Then add water, till the container is about 1/3 full.

I tumble them for 1 hour. This removes all the rust.

Dump the dirty/rusty water and fill the container back up with water, to 1/3 full, and add 1 teaspoon of Lemi Shine and tumble for 1 hour.

Then I dump the water and spray the balls with spray wax, (about 20 sprays) and add cotton balls. I let this tumble for about 1 1/2 hours. After that I remove the cotton balls and replace them with new ones and tumble for another 1 1/2 hours.

They come out shiny every time.
