    Default LED bulbs don't work

I needed a couple replacement bulbs for some Nishijin machines (a 1969 single shot and 1978 model C). I decided to order a 10 pack LED E10 bulbs. I run my machines on rechargeable 9volt batteries and though generally I'm happy with the battery life, I figured LEDs would give me even more time between charges. Mostly they're fine and get the job done.

But they won't work at all in the upper right jackpot light on my model C. I tested the bulbs in other spots and they work fine, so it's not the LED bulbs. With a regular filament bulb in the upper right corner, the light works normally, so it's not the wiring or a switch or anything like that.

Any idea why LEDs wouldn't work in that slot? I tried gently crimping the bulb holders thinking maybe something just didn't jive with the newer bulb bases, but that didn't help any.

If an incandescent works, then it’s most likely that you just need to unsolder, swap, and re-solder the contacts on the socket.
Or, as they say in every sci-fi show: reverse the polarity!

Edit: To test it out before you make any changes, you may want to test out powering just that socket alone with a pair of alligator clips.

The LED's may be polarity sensitive, if memory serves some Nishijin's switch the wiring on certain bulbs, you could try reversing the wires to that bulb and see if it works, would probably be lit when not required though.

Winner winner chicken dinner! Yep it's the polarity. It might be easier to resolder the wires where they all come together behind the fuse. For one thing it's easier to get to (no disassembly required). For another those lamp sockets are mounted to some sort of PCB circuit board kind of thing. But so long as I find the right leads it should be pretty straightforward. Thanks!

    Test the bulb!

Easy enough to touch a 9V battery to the side AND the bottom of the E10 LED bulb at the same time.

Might be a bad bulb, usually they break from being over tightened into the socket.

And everyone else is correct, one bulb might have the + and - wires reversed... doesn't matter with incandescent.

I recommend buying colored, diffused, LED, E10 base, bulbs, by the way.
Not white, if behind red plastic - get red...
