Default Ball Lifter Question / Strange Switch

Just got another ball lifter (same type as my other one) and it has an extension, a button, and a place for a 9v battery to plug into. My other one doesn't have any of this but works just fine, does anyone know what these extra things actually do?

Thanks in advance and sorry for all the questions! I'm learning as I go.

That there box is a basic 10 ball counter. I wouldn't recommend connecting a 9v battery to it. Inside is a toothed wheel with a magnet on and a reed switch, the weight of balls going through it makes the wheel go round and every revolution. the magnet passes over the reed switch, sending a signal to the parlour ystem that 10 balls have left the machine.

The black switch should fit on to a bracket onto the frame surround. that if the machine is opened up, the switch is open and the ball lifter will not start. It avoids lifting balls into fresh air

Ah ha, that makes total sense! I guess I'll just remove that entire extension piece with the black box and 9v adapter since it sounds like I don't need it. Thanks for the info!

    Hey that's my listing!
Yes we've received lifters with that attachment...... don't hook a 9V to it, we did and it sizzled and burnt out whatever sensor it had. Apparently that is not a 9V attachment but something else in Japan (Even though they DO have 9V batteries there!)
    Enjoy,
    Bill

As above. It's not a power connection. It's a signal connection. That counts balls as they leave the lifter.

Which brings to my totally unknowing mind (as I don't yet own even a single pachinko machine) the question: would there be any useful (or even just entertaining?) reason to actually keep the little counter-thingie and try to hook it up to some sorta 'display' (?) to make it "work" again...??

Sounds like something I'd tend to wanna do anyways, if confronted with a 'WTF is this thing' thing and then someone else told me...??

In this case as it's on the overflow of a ball lifter. It's not helpful at all for home use. People want a closed system and don't want balls to leave. So they plug up the overflow with foam or other material.

The ones that are on the normal drain chute are more useful because they detect every ball that's been through the machine (within a 9 ball error rate) that's every ball if it was a winner or not. There is also another one on the feed rail to the machine. In the days before CR and you brought the balls from a stand alone machine. The parlour would know how many balls a machine had been paying out. By the amount its had to refill.
