Sorry...I'm afraid the answer is no. 12mm would likely get stuck (probably in a tulip), and 10mm would probably be too light to trip the jackpot. On a '50s machine I have...brittle, cracked plastic at the tail end of the winning ball path... right where it rides the jackpot spoon down to the catch box, was preventing a complete jackpot cycle. Before I restored it...it would almost complete a jackpot cycle, but always needed a little help with my finger. When I got around to fixing the plastic parts, I found that a Listerine bottle and a heat gun worked great. Sorry about the GIANT pics...every time I copy and paste a pic from a previous post does that. Final pic to show end result. Once complete, the jackpot functioned perfectly. The reason for the original malfunction was...with the cracked plastic, the ball sat off center on the jackpot spoon. The off center situation of the winning ball did not transfer AlLL the weight to the jackpot spoon. Therefore, not enough weight to complete the jackpot cycle. It only took the slightest touch to make it work before the repair. It was at that moment that I realized just how delicately balanced these machines are!
To be fair...the jackpot spoon did not have the traditional flat spot, or platform that all later vintage machines have (giving it a spoon like apperance...hence the name). The jackpot (non) spoon, was just a brass bar about 1/16" thick...allowing the ball to sit off center.(with the cracked plastic bowed out) Newer machines have a small flat platform on the end of the jackpot spoon for the ball to rest on. This would help transfer all the weight of the ball and likely prevent this. Would that allow a 10mm ball to work? I simply don't know!
I have never tried either of those two sizes...so I could be wrong. But I believe "real" pachinko balls (11mm) are the way to go!

All pachinko balls are 11mm no matter what age the machine.
All guides, paths, pins, gears, wheels and shooters are set for that size. Use any other size at your own risk.

So if you can't find any 11mm balls what other size would be the best option ?

I'm afraid the only option is to look harder.
I would never recommend anything other than genuine pachi balls and 11mm ball bearings at a push.

I would suggest eBay...but I know shipping is an issue. What do people in the UK usually do for pachinko balls? Pay through the nose?

I just get mine from Japan. Get about 3000 at a time and stick them on the slow boat and wait 2 months
