Just checked glass prices here. Regular plate runs ~$5 per sq. foot. Tempered runs ~$25 per. Your mileage may vary.

    Story time:
This week I received my copy of Japanese Natsukashii Pachinko from Otaku.com. I noticed at the bottom of the invoice it said, "Anything else you require from Japan? Contact us at info@otaku.com" So I thought "what the hay," I'll see what it would cost to import some pachinko balls. I ended up corresponding with a fellow named Alex who was able to offer them at $10 per 500 which is 2 cents each. BUT, shipping via Japan Post would add $50 per 500 making the total $60 per 500 which is 12 cents each. I know I can buy pachinko balls that are already in the US at 500 for $30 so I had to tell Alex thanks but no thanks. He was so quick to help, it's nice to know I have at least one contact in Japan for imports.

One month ago today I picked up my first pachinko machine for free on the way home from work. Now I have four and I'm still restoring that first one for an hour most nights before bed. Puttering away at a workbench is a relaxing way to finish a day. I'm looking forward to designing an LED lighting system and building a case. Cheers to PachiTalk!

Wait, $10 for replacement glass? I was getting mine custom cut at a local glass shop. Did they just happen to have an exact fit there? Was it tempered?
I come from pinball-land, so I always go tempered...

At ACE they would cut annealed glass down from a 24"x16" sheet. The cost is the same at my local glass shop, however they'll also treat the edge so it isn't so sharp. Tempered glass would certainly be safer. I'm not planning to bang on the pachi glass like I occasionally do on my pinball machine.

Tonight I applied Gel-Gloss with a soft brush (quick) and proceeded to spend almost an hour buffing it out (looooooong) with a microfiber cloth and few Q-tips. It was very a very tedious process. Hopefully I can use another brush to clean the wax off between the closest nails, otherwise, I'll have to change my technique on the next machine.

Yes, I come from the world of pinball where we devoutly keep a coat of wax on our playfields. My pachinko cell was filthy so I brushed on Gel-Gloss and then spent a long time buffing it to a shine. I'm using a clean soft brush to remove the last of the wax haze between tight rows of nails. In the future, I may try a foaming cleaner. This all started when I read about a Pica Cell cleaner and wanted to see if I could clean with a brush.

wax seems like total overkill (and wasted time) Pica cell or the likes would be the way to go...

I bought and installed glass today. It was a good choice, I prefer the sound and feel of glass versus plexi. I also played pachinko for the first time. It was fun...but I had more fun finding and restoring the machine. I finished the day by taking measurements to build a pachi cabinet. Off to the hardware store tomorrow.

I drove home from work today with a big Christmas grin on my face and a grail pachi in the back seat. I've had my eye on a local hanemono for a couple weeks now but I couldn't stomach the cabinet colors or price tag. By chance, the same model in a different frame was listed as a "Chinese Pinball" on facebook and I snatched it up for $60. Score! Fingers crossed I can get it working by digging around on Pachitalk for tips. I love that this pachi's theme is pachinko! Pachinko Taishou / Big Awards circa 1989.

How deep you going? Complete disassembly? Take lots of pictures for reference. I redid a Sankyo Hanemono, completely apart, cleaned and polished everything, replaced a bunch of bulbs that were out. Really made a difference when it was all back together. And no parts left over!

Compirate, this is the cleanest pachi I've bought, so I'm not planning to do a complete disassembly. My answer is: whatever it takes to get all the bulbs and mechs working.
Also, I ordered more balls from Clover this morning to feed my growing collection.

Solved the mystery of the jammed feed tray. Fortunately I have an amphibian extraction tool in my shop.
