Question Nishijin B modified to return balls

Just accidentally got my second pachinko machine today (yes, it was accidental, and no, my wife doesn’t know), and as I was giving it an initial inspection I noticed that a previous owner (?) modded the ball chutes to return winners and gutter balls to the overflow tray:

They added a spring running from the winning ball dump chute to one side of the overflow chute...

and cut a flap in the other side of the overflow chute so that gutter balls would be redirected into the lower tray...

It was instantly clear what they’d done, and testing it showed that it works reliably.
I was just wondering if anyone had come across this sort of mod before? It would be pretty easy to do on other B-style machines. The gutter ball flap could even be installed with a hinge and clasp, allowing it to easily be switched back and forth between “easy” and “hard” modes.

I’ll probably close up the flap, because that seems a little cheat-y to me — gutter balls are gutter balls, do-overs are for grade-schoolers. But I’m seriously considering adding that spring shunt to my other machine; it never really seemed fair that you get a jackpot, but loose the winning ball.

Yeah, I saw a bunch of stuff on full cyclic mods that all seemed rather . . . involved, for those of us with little-to-no electronics expertise. I wasn't able to find a lot on semi-cyclic mods. There was one that involved custom-building an end-cap to replace the existing elbow at the end of the overflow chute, but I can't find that one now.

Either way, I wasn't able to find this particular method after a few hours of searching last night. This seemed pretty simple, by comparison, and easily reversible.

*Also, sorry about the orientation of the pics in the top post. They were right-side-up when I uploaded them ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
