    Default Wi-Fi Game Room

    Wondering if anyone is using the wi-fi smart plugs with their Amazon/Google device to turn on their game machines.

    I bought this 4 pack => https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CX5KLXN...ing=UTF8&psc=1

    and 1 of these => https://www.amazon.com/BN-LINK-Count...eb_18763335011

    Not trying to push this particular brand, but these things are the coolest!

    They are connected to a surge protector, and the machines plug into them.

    The machines can be turned on from my tablet (via the app), by asking 'Alexa' (in my case), or by pushing the switch on the plug.

    Very easy to set up. I did have to turn off 5GHz wi-fi to connect them to the 2.4Ghz, but once they are set up you can turn it back on.

    I have remote-controlled power bars I can turn everything on with a single button. I refuse to let a unsecuredubiquitous listening device into my house.

    if you have any of these in North America, let's talk.

    LOL! You don't have to enable it through Alexa or whatever, you can use your phone, tablet, etc... as the remote.

    Seems like a neat solution, but I don't trust the current generation of app controlled wireless automation. They all appear to rely on the manufacturer maintaining the app and continuing to run the internet servers that the app talks to. If the company ceases trading, or decides it's time to shut down the server, then your devices stop working.

    Got caught out with 'designed in obsolescence' before, and refuse to join in with it this time round.

    I just have a switched socket outlet by the door of the room, and everything can be turned on/off from there.

    I use the TP-Link smart sockets. Just so I can turn on the Kyorakus from a different building so I don't have to listen to the alarm

    Completely with cait001...one of those infernal "spy machines" will *never* be allowed in my house as long as I have a say about it. Also, I personally **hate** the whole 'voice command' thing (esp on the phone) as its often difficult enough to carry on a sensible conversation with a real human being, I just don't wanna have to do that battle with a boxful of microchips instead...? <lol>

    Not that I'm totally against the idea of 'home automation'...not at all. I never got into the X-10(?) computer controlled stuff that was out there right before the alexas came out (though I had friends/housemates that did) instead, it turns out my favoritest way to do all that started out in the 1950's...?

    Sadly (well kinda mebbe, or not?) my own little house is one of the likely very few in my neighborhood that didn't get such a system when it was built, so the handful of scavenged bits at that CW link are my only current parts. Oddly enough though, I have also discovered that at least a limited amount of basic system parts are STILL available today. (~70yrs later?!)

    I've got some network controllable PDUs for servers. Can turn off and on individual sockets from a computer. Also tell you how much power they're using. I don't use them for pachis. They're in my server rack.
