Smile Newbie first time setup help

    Hi pachitalk!
I finally got my first machine,
a Kyoraku Makotochan in a Big Bang frame

    s-l1600.jpg

I am having a few issues:
First off, I can't find any sort of volume control if there is one - if not, can someone point me to a good guide for installing a volume control?

Second of all, it screams at me with a loud alarm whenever I plug it in! Which is the biggest issue here. I've seen that an alarm for Kyoraku machines is "normal" but I'm not sure how long it's supposed to last. It's louder than a car alarm, should I just let it go and hope for the best?

Also I have 100 balls, should I buy more/where is the best place to buy them?

Sorry for all the newbie questions, thanks guys!

    Harvey

How long does the alarm go off when you turn it on? Couple of mine do that briefly; or a booming Japanese woman’s voice yells something. But should go away after 10-20 seconds.

Does it fire balls and payout properly?

I get balls from eBay, pachinko pagoda is the store. Yeah, need more balls ASAP, I’d get another 1000 at least. 100 isn’t nearly enough; it’s probably telling you to fill the hopper!

Someone probably directly imported it because most domestic sellers do install volume controls; you’d have to locate the speaker wires to install them. HOWEVER; many cells do have a tiny little adjustable switch with 3 or 4 volume level sections; you may be able to just set it to lowest setting and it will be bearable. You’ll just have to search diligently for it; it’s on the back of the cell usually not the frame itself. I’m not familiar with that brand machine. Otherwise; aftermarket volume controls or earplugs are only real options; or annoying your family and neighbors to no end!

Thanks for the info! I bought myself 1000 extra balls
As for the alarm I haven't let it go longer than 10 seconds, because it was horrible and it's night time haha, I wanted to make sure it was normal before I just let it ring.
I'll have to try it tomorrow when it's not nighttime for my family's sake, maybe try and muffle the speakers while it starts up!

My AKB48 has just over 30 seconds of alarm.

Thanks for the info, he stops exactly on the 30 second mark and I found the basic volume control!
That video was a big help

Now I'm getting what I believe to be the error code 37 (shows up in his eyes), I'm going to guess I don't have enough balls in. There's no music playing, but the lights are on. I can get balls to fly through the top, some come out the return and some come out the back (I need a bucket back there huh?)

Kyoraku Big Bang is notorious for the 30 second alarm. I know someone who wired an on-off switch going to the speakers to kill the noise until the 30 seconds had passed.

Makoto-chan is a Kenrimono or rights type machine. Which means as you play, you have to complete certain tasks to progress to the next part of the game play.

The numbers on the eyes aren't error codes. As you play, balls going through the 'Go pocket', will cause the numbers to change. Kind of like a 2 reel slot machine. When the numbers match, It will progress to the next phase. When you get to the final phase, the machine will go into a fever/bonus round. Here's where you get big payouts.

Anyway, check out this video which shows a cell swap at around the 50 second mark but the rest is Makoto. Shows some really cool game play. I could live with the alarm for one of these machines!

    Gotta catch 'em all Pa-chink-o

Great to know thank you! I'll try again tonight (waiting eagerly for my extra balls to come!), I figured since I wasn't getting any music something wasn't working but perhaps I'm just not good enough yet!
Once I get him up and running I'll get some footage for everyone

That’s pretty cool it’s a kenrimono! The serious gamblers choice! Those generally take more skill because there’s usually 2 or 3 targets to shoot for, you’ll just have to play it a bit to figure out the sequence to start a fever round. Better gameplay in my opinion than digipachis where it’s just hold the shooter in one place and hope for the best. If you like playing it a lot I’d get a Daverob dongle, makes it easy to dispense balls from the hopper via the buttons on the front, instead of manually adding balls constantly.

I'm definitely going to be sitting with it and playing until I get good enough to show off haha!
Do you have more info on where to buy the Daverob dongle?
I'm also considering getting a card emulator eventually!

To best of my knowledge, you have to order them direct from his site, and it’s shipped from England. http://www.pinballdave.com/store/index.html

Clover Collectables in SC used to have them domestically, but I don’t see them on their site anymore. They haven’t imported more machines in a couple years so I’m guessing their inventory of dongles is depleted too? Slim pickings it seems; maybe they’ll get more when they get a new shipment in a couple months?

you could always PM daverob and ask if he has a current stockist over there, he's a member here at PachiTalk
