Default What is this tulip's problem

I'm in the midst of restoring a Nishijin B Sophia (Super Deluxe, Crab theme). The center tulip exhibits a problem where it seems to work fine when a ball enters it in the closed petals position. However, when a ball enters it in the open petals position, it gets stuck as shown in the photo.

Has anyone seen this type of failure before? Is this an indication that the metal claws of the lever inside the tulip are too close together, too far apart, or something else totally?

Any insights would be appreciated. Thanks.

In the first picture the metal looks bent. Not so much in the second picture...

Can you remove the tulip from the playfield?

Welcome....full machine pics please...we love pictures.

You'll need to open the inner metal prongs a bit more so the ball passes freely through them.

Thanks for everyone's prompt responses. I opened up the prongs enough to let the ball through and that seems to have solved the problem. And now, pictures of the machine, as requested (Sorry about the glare).

This is my first restore and my goal was to leave as many of the original components in the machine as possible. So far, I've replaced the grommets for all three bulbs (two "winner" and one "empty") and brought the "empty" switch back to life. There are also some missing screws and nuts, some of which I've already replaced. You might have noticed that the plexiglass is cracked in an upper corner. I'll be replacing that 1/16" sheet with a 1/8" sheet and adding the outer layer of plexiglass as well. The track cover and slider were missing, so I temporarily placed a corrugated plastic sheet in its place until I can 3D print a replacement. I was going to try my hand at impressioning a key for the lock, but someone drilled a hole in it. On the bright side, that makes any flat head screwdriver the right key. I noticed oil in some spots, so I'm trying to sop them up as much as practical. And, of course, there is the cleaning still to be completed.
