Default Nishijin Super Deluxe Power Flash Restoration

Just finished a total restoration on my first Power Flash.
For those of you not familiar with this machine, there is an extra board in between the playfield and the "gut"s. The guts are attached to the extra board and the solenoid assembly attaches directly to the back of the playfield.
The selonoids dictate the open and closing of eight of the tulips. If a ball enters the top of the center attraction, all of the tulips open. There are also switches in each side of the center attraction that will open the four on either side depending on where the ball goes. If you look at the yellow (Queen) tulips on both sides, putting a ball in there will close the remaining tulips on either side. I'm going to install a "cheat button" that will open all the tulips to make the game more fun to play.

I acquired this machine from Carl Wegman in Illinois along with an extra Nishijin for parts. The PF was missing some parts, specifically the yellow attraction at the bottom and the other machine had that part.
When I do my restorations I completely strip every part off the machine. All of the wood gets sanded and a coat of poly. Rust removed, brass polished, plastic cleaned and waxed. I also pull the brass nails and tumble them.
This time I decided to do something I've never done before. I put a new playfield on. With a new playfield and some encouragement from Bill Cardwell, I pulled the old playfield off. A lot of elbow grease is needed to get all of the residue that is left behind off the wood. You need to then do some fine sanding so the board is very smooth as any imperfection will show thru the new playfield. I was very happy with my results.
After a lot of tweaking, I can say the machine is 100% functional. As I am also a semi-professional magician, I love the playing card theme of the Power Flash.

    nice looking work there

looks like you have a center tap transformer.. with some simple testing i would not be surprised if that transformer will power your lights as well as you solenoids.. i run all my power required machines with a center tap transformer.

    my 2 cents

    Thanks for the compliment.

I also have a Power Flash Chinaman that will need a transformer. Where do you get yours?

    Da-bay,

one like this i have used many many times on every vintage machine that requires power.. but i never paid this much

    https://www.ebay.com/itm/Rare-RADIO-...ss!95619!US!-1

look up " 273-1512 " on the webs and see if ya can find a better deal

the advantage with this style is there are only 3 wires no guessing involved... the two like colored wires provide power to the machine.. then either one of the like colored ones and the odd colored one provides power to the lights..

The Power Flash was the first design I did for a promotional video.
The tulip design evolved to a more manageable version later.

Working on a modular system of drop in parts or changeable play fields.
    Good luck on the restoration...
