Default Hello from Northern Saskatchewan, Canada and my machine. :

Hello from cold blustery Northern Saskatchewan, my home is right on the natural divide of the prairie farmland to the south and the glacial boreal forest to the north. Currently enjoying a little over half a metre of snow, and about -21 celsius.

My machine is a Nishijin, and was given to me by my dad when I was about 8 years old. Originally, the story goes, my father's cousin had wanted to open up a Pachinko parlor in Edmonton, AB, so he imported several of these machines into Canada. He later decided against it (maybe finances, maybe gaming regulations, etc). He then either sold or gave away these machines to his extended family, and thus, my love for mechanical games began.

This machine was my childhood friend (and enemy) for a long time - on the days it was working well, I loved it... and on the days it wasn't working (pre-internet era) I was thoroughly frustrated.

After a short stint in storage with extended family, I had to redo all the mechanics, clean every thing, get all the "stuck" balls out, and reset it all to get it working again. It was a challenge to keep my "mechanic" spouse away from the machine long enough for me to fix it, otherwise I may have had even more difficulties. Explaining the gravity feed and the balance requirements was difficult enough.

I purchased some chrome polish for the chrome bits and balls and some heavy duty marine plastic cleaner for the rest of the bits and pieces and went at it with all the qtips I could find. (Go easy on me - if I shouldn't have used the cleaners, as I didn't know any better at the time).

It is working really well now, but only when it is 100% level. It is now making memories for my kids, and it outshines the electronic games every time.

QUESTION for the experts in the forums: Looking at the cabinet designs on here, are any of them built as a wall-mount swing-out? I'd like the machine to swing open like a book when I want to refill the hopper or service it.

AND--- if anybody knows this model, I'd love to find out more about it's origins/year/etc.

Anyways! Hello from Northern Saskatchewan - and I'm thrilled to have found a forum of people all as obsessed as I am with these silly toys.
    Meg

Welcome to the horde! Love your story. So happy you got that beauty working again. I am more of a modern machine collector myself, but can appreciate a beautiful machine when I see one. Nice work!
