Default finally picked up a Smart Ball machine

Wanted one of these for a while now.

    The front:

The mechs in the back are very similar to mechanical pachinko:

    got more balls from https://www.moonmarble.com/p-1396-opaque-white-1.aspx
There is a lot of variance in these though, so about 15% I rejected as being out of spec (too large)

I got one of those innards things too, more persian though.

I thought the balls were more of a pingpong type of thing.

Balls were originally white and porcelain. Then operators moved to semi-opaque blue marbles, it seems.
I do not have any original porcelain balls to compare against, but they are available on Ebay japan.

I assume you have to refill the hopper after playing a bit or is there a lift that I'm not seeing?

Like pachinko machines of the era, all balls come out the back into whatever makeshift bin you have. Then the operator uses a scoop to fill the hopper.
There are ball elevators available, but just like regular pachinko, they tend to cost more than the machines themselves.

Like a 1970s pachinko machine, there is a light that flashes on a jackpot and an attendant light for when the hopper is empty, or when the player pushes an attention button.

Gameplay is entirely mechanical based on gravity potential energy and spring plunges

I'm sure it would be easy to construct a simple slow lifting device with such large balsl. If you would wish.
is its staying as is, or going to be refurbished.

It's a keeper for sure. Got it working perfectly, going to leave it as is cosmetically.
I could def task some local high school students to build a LEGO marble machine to work on feeding the hopper

    Update!!!!

I finally managed to get a 1930s Smart Ball shipped to Canada!
These would be found in early Showa festivals where kids could win sweets and adults could win cigarettes or soap.

The operator releases the balls with a handle at the back.
Some bubbling to the art layer on the left hand side, will see if it responds well to a heat gun eventually. Unsure even what the material is.
