Default Is this right/what's it do - Nishijin A single shot

I've got my first Pachinko machine. It's a 1969 Nishijin A single shot. After some minor tinkering with some levers on the back (and watching lots of the helpful videos on this site), it's playable. But there's a bit that I can't figure out what it's doing and therefore wonder if it's set up right.

Here's a photo. It's the bit I'm pointing to. This is directly below the jackpot seesaw. It just rocks back and forth freely and doesn't appear to be attached to anything.

The lower part (right where my finger is) can touch that seesaw right below it. But it just rocks back. There's no way to lock it in place. And if I could lock it, it would lock the jackpot seesaw in place preventing any jackpots from triggering.

The upper part has a few little arms coming off it. One is right below the lever that triggers the ball feeder. The other is up above what appears to be a weighted stop that regulates balls rolling down into the jackpot area.

What is this for and is it setup properly?

Those are part of the payout stop mechanism if the prize tray is low on balls. Here is a pic of how they should be with balls in the lower payout tray.20190122_182833-1.jpg

Ok. So when a payout happens, this sort of jiggles the levers in the bottom of the ball tray to encourage the balls to roll down into the prize tray?

When a payout happens the balls released onto the ramp tilts the lower seesaw. If there are no balls in the payout tray the upper part is held at a position that blocks the payout ramp from tipping the lower seesaw.

I think I follow you now. So, when there are no balls in the payout tray, it's supposed to stop a player from triggering a payout when they score?

Correct. Blocks or stops the payout reset.

Thanks Tink for the picture and description here. I'm going through an early 70's Nishijin model A and it seemed to totally drain the machine on a jackpot, but from that picture I realized the L-shaped bracket was tilted too far, and needed its wires hooked under the ball-detector see-saw above and to the right of it. I popped things around and it's much better!
