    Default My Second Lucky Find

Well. It has begun. I wasn't even looking for another machine, but one found me instead.

I was inspired by Peteybob's cool vending machine find:

    Candy Dispenser turned Ball Dispenser

So I was browsing the vending machine listings on my local classifieds and stumbled across this pachinko machine for $50. I hesitated at first, but I just couldn't resist. It was a bit of a drive to pick it up, but I think it was worth it. Any info on the machine would be most welcome. I'm sure someone on here can interpret the sticker to find out what year it is. It appears to be newer than my first machine. It's in about the same shape as my Heiwa was, having been in storage a while it is a bit dusty. The mechanism seems to be another 'Type 2' or 'Model B' like my Heiwa or other Nishijin machines. It is missing one of the access covers on the back, and there is a ball jammed in the opening where the balls are fed to the launcher. The frame might be a little tweaked, but I may be able to stabilize/reinforce it somehow. Someone also placed two American flag decals in the upper left and lower right corners of the Plexiglas. Other than that, cell looks good, main feature looks intact. Overall I think it's cool

I didn't think I would be collecting them so soon, but here we are, with my machines multiplying at an alarming rate...

    Cool machine. Guessing late 70's.
Looks like your missing the lower ball track cover and the metal rest in your last pic is out of position, should be under the 2 plastic legs from the lower ball track.

Really? Is there supposed to more than this piece?

And I see what you're talking about with that metal piece that isn't under the white pieces in the track above it, but I can't seem to figure out how to get it to where it is supposed to be. It almost looks like it's backwards, but I don't see how someone would have done that, it's riveted to the other metal piece, and it doesn't feel like it wants to move when I try to push it. Kind of strange.

Could not see the track cover. Nice you have it

Not sure how they would have moved the metal rest. But it should move back and good that it is tight and not easily moved. Here's a pic of mine for location reference.20181110_182642-1.jpg

I think I got it, but I'll have to test it to be sure. I would like to finish the other machine before I start on this one, though. Shouldn't be too long.

The machine has been tested and is confirmed to function properly. Balls feed to the shooter, tulips open and close and jackpots pay out. A rogue leaf caused the only jam and it was easily dealt with.

It now awaits it's cleaning and tune-up.

    I am pleased.

The front is now done. Not a fan of this chrome foil stuff they used; once it starts flaking it'll keep coming off, and if it loses its luster it looks terrible. . .but I took my time cleaning it so damage was minimal. Doesn't look too bad.

The nails in the playfield are a bit more tarnished than my first machine, so they aren't as shiny, but none were out right rusted. I'll even get a little nail bending experience before I'm done.

Not exactly sure how I'm going to reattach the rubber strip down by the shooter; the first 6 inches has been glued to the track, and can't quite reach the other nail it's supposed to attach to. It's already tearing, so I was thinking of maybe just gluing the rest of it on.

I've just removed the rubber strip when broke with no ill effect to the machines function.

I think I'll do that; I was considering that as well.

It was a similar situation with the machine multiplication for me as well. I had found a Nishijin recycler at an antique shop and after a month or so haggle them down to a reasonable price, it wasn't a month later that my wife had come home from a different antique shop with a Sanyo Comet II... I am fairly certain that there must be some sort of voodoo or enchantment involved!

Indeed, they silently call out to their kin to congregate and multiply. . .I'm still being tempted by a couple of machines that popped up recently. I must resist for now! But maybe. . .I think I'm in trouble

Something like that, I just picked up another 2 myself. Watch for a thread, I still haven't taken good pics of them yet.

Unlike the Heiwa, the Maruhon machine is engineered with easy maintenence in mind; the entire back comes off! No staples to pull and it isn't divided into two separate halves. This shouldn't be bad at all.

Isn't it nice when a little forethought goes into engineering?!? Lol

This took much, much longer than I had intended, but I was sick of looking at this thing in pieces, so I threw on some Cowboy Bebop and made the final push. Final testing will commence tomorrow, because right now I'm starving Despite the amount of time I took on this, it was a much easier cleaning process than the Heiwa; everything was pretty much designed to be taken apart, so that was nice. I hope you all had a good holiday, and have a safe New Year.

See You Space Cowboy. . .
