    Default 1950s Ginpa "jiNMitt"

Hey everybody--I figured this might be the best place to, possibly, get some answers. My grandpa brought this machine back with him after an army tour in Japan. It fell to my dad and, with him moving away, it has fallen to me. I think it's fascinating and would love to get it restored, but I know next to nothing about it except for what I can Google on "Ginpa Pachinko". The closest I found was a thread on this site back in 2012 with pictures that looked similar off an Ebay auction. I was told by my dad that the only non-functioning thing was a bell...looks like an arm became disconnected at one end. I have tried to attach a bunch of pictures, so we'll see how they turn out.

Could anybody shed some light on this? It would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Love those wood frame single shot machines from the '50s! Try searching "Ginza" instead. Not sure what the jin mitt is.

looks to be in excellent shape.. trouble shooting a newer machine from pics is kinda doable.. i'm not that familiar with these early machines to give you any good advice.. its one of those machines i would have to get my hands into..

have you tried to load it with balls yet and see what happens?? a bit of advice to ya would be to get some new balls.. those would be ok for testing but i would not recommend them for play.. their looking a bit rough and i would hate to see ya damage the playfield with them..

    and of course

    Welcome to Pachitalk

Thanks! I also sent these photos over to Pachinkoman to see what kind of restoration process I would be looking at. I'm willing to spend some money to get the machine back into working condition...I just have no idea about the cost.

Now that I'm at home, and looking on something other than my phone...I only see one real problem. The vertical green bar is rivited to a small brass tab that used to be soldered to the payout tray. It was once taped on.

Yeah, that's the only issue I noticed as well, but I'm hoping it's minor for a repair compared to other problems a machine like this could have.

It can be soldered back on...but it requires a good clean surface. This is best achieved by removing the payout tray and the green bar...which is rivited to another horizontal brass bar at the bottom. Can be done. Easy or hard? Dependsb on your skill level. The good news is, it is a simple solder joint. The "U turn" to the right of it is 3 pieces soldered together, If not securely clamped together, it will fall apart when heated hot enough to solder.
I have recently learned to solder brass plate, learning on a 1952 machine with a ball lifter. Wasn't hard...but was scary. I was afraid of my "U turn" falling apart.
The bell you mentioned is a replacement bell not properly located. The larger top bell is not seated in the cutout. It looks to be from another pachinko machine, as the bracket it is rivited to looks correct. Looks like it is attached to the original screw holes and don't reach the cutout. You can probably remove the screws and reposition the bell into the cutout, then make new screw holes where needed...providing the bell fits the cutout.
All in all, a beautiful machine worth salvaging, just a repair that not all hobbyists are comfortable trying.

Are you comfortable taking those parts off?

No, not particularly. I have talked with Pachinkoman about this and it looks like I'll have him do the maintenance/repair/frame/steel refinishing and I can do something like backing cleaning, pin polishing, and glass replacement. Thank you for all of the advice!

If you were cool with removing it, and sent it to me, I could solder it for you.
