Default Hello from Sweet Home Alabama

Hi everyone, I'm Shawn and I'm new to this hobby. I'll try not to go on a soapbox, but I've been interested in Japanese culture as far back as I can remember. I even took a trip to Tokyo, mainly because I wanted to see the arcades, but these Slot and Pachinko parlors were literally everywhere. I poked my head in a few and was so drawn in by it. Especially since the themes are so appealing on some of the machines, I'm a huge fan of older video games and animation. I'm actually about to pull the trigger and buy my first machine, but I'm on the fence on which to get. I'd appreciate if someone could help steer me in the right direction, especially since I'm not sure of the value of some of these. I also saw the website PachisloMarket and it was very tempting, although they will not ship to Alabama I would have to have the machine it sent to a friend's home in Florida. Also, I was wondering if anyone could weigh in on that, if they are from Alabama, about the legality of owning one of these here. Anyway, /soapbox, thank you for having me. Look forward to diving in to this new obsession headfirst.

and they are chock full of good information.

Dont buy for value, buy for fun. There are only a couple of rare, expensive machines (despite what eBay and other selling sites say) and pachinkoman.com has some good information on it. It also depends on where you live and the sentimental value, some people won’t go down on the price, or think an unrestored machine is worth the same as a restored one... buy the best condition you can for your first one and learn how they work. Buy what you like.

I only do vintage, so someone else has to chime in for slots and pachislo.

Hello Shawn and welcome to the group

Go with themes and characters that you like and enjoy. Also look for various videos of play from machines you might want to buy. I've done this with several of my machines and wish I had done it with others that I thought I'd play and enjoy more often.

Thanks petey, therein lies the problem, there are so many themes that I do like haha Everyday I browse websites looking at the different ones available, and I'm like, "They made one for that? Gotta get it somehow"

I am thinking of purchasing a macross 2. That one is a nice newer modern and also has a lot of decent reaches and a fun little rush mode. I also like the fact that they have a 1/77 model. Feels like you get more entertainment on lower odd machines.
