    Default Tulip help

This is the new Nishijin. Everything is working well except for the middle tulip. Balls get stuck there and won't fall to the right like they should. You can see a ball stuck in middle photo. Nothing is wrong with the tulip itself. The only think I see inside the pocket is the arm that opens the side tulips. That moves and easily opens the tulips when I move it manually so I think it is functioning like it should, but it is the only thing I see there. You can see it in the last photo. Thoughts? Thanks

First thing to try is a q-tip (or 3) with glass cleaner, and carefully clean inside the tulip as there may be something sticky. I usually take a small cup, spray a bit in there and dip the cotton in there, press off excess and then gently rub.

Just so you know, my first machine is nick named “skittles” as some child loaded it with skittles, and I found them everywhere in the dang machine, so it is possible to have sticky things or rusty things gum up the works. If a few q-tips clear it up, yippee, otherwise you have to remove the tulip and see if a ball got under it, if it got bent, a stray candy, or other.

Post back after a gentle clean.

I thought the photos were showing up. I have taken the tulip out and cleaned it. Seems to work fine when out of the machine.

Skittles? Why didn't I think of that? Could have saved money on new balls.

Great pictures. Did you swap tulips at some point, perhaps accidentally?

OR--is the stick coming off the reset ramp thingy interfering with the linkage that is supposed to trigger it?

Is the ball sticking. When the tulip is open or closed? If it is when open you may need to bend the 2 prongs open more so the ball goes through.

Balls get stuck when tulip is closed or open. And now I’m stuck and can’t figure it out. I widened the tulip opening as much as possible. It seems the ball is blocked by the arm that opens the left and right tulips. The arm comes down when a ball lowers the stick on the tulip. Does anyone have a Nishijin where a ball in the upper middle tulip opens the left and right? My other Nishijin is different, a ball in the left or right opens the middle.

I'm pretty sure I have one that works that way, but it will take a while for me to dig it out...so let me ask this, just for clarity:

have you tested the tulip out of the machine? How does it function out of the machine?

If it functions correctly, address some issue in the machine. If it does not function, take a closer look at the tulip.

Did you swap tulips, perhaps accidentally, at some point?

It is usually mechanics mounted on the back of the cell. You may need to disassemble the back to find out whats holding things up.

The tulip works perfectly out of the machine. I didn't swap tulips but maybe someone did before me. I will try swapping them and see what happens. This tulip has a rod on the left that pushes down a lever, that opens the left and right tulips. This same lever is preventing the ball from falling to the right.

Assuming the tulip is correctly placed in the machine (not swapped), I would look for interference between the tulip lever and linkage in the machine.

I'm having the exact same problem, balls getting stuck in the upper-center tulip. I just finished my first restoration today, and this is the only issue I have. Did you ever figure this out dghodge? My tulip works perfectly outside of the machine as does yours and what I'm thinking is that the left pin that comes off of the ramp is not positioned correctly to the linkage. Does anyone know off hand if this pin should go into the back of the linkage; above or below the bend? If so, I think I'll need to dissasemble again and reposition as I see no way of doing this from the front side.

OK, I've figured this out. My machine and most likely dghodge's have an "all-in-one" jackpot/tulip mechanism.
Resized_20181106_160323_9653.jpegThe left and right tulips open when the upper-center closes. If the upper-center tulip pin is above or in front of the linkage it will stick and cannot go all the way down. The tulip pin needs to be behind and below that little bend in the rod. The left and right tulips, when closed, will push down on the rod and close the center as well. (I think I got all that right)

Thanks, I will try that. I took half the back off to look at the problem and since I got that far, I took off the rest so I can put on new playfield graphics, hopefully this weekend.

Oh wow, well you've got a lot of work to do then! Good luck with it.
A quick follow up on the tulip module (which I think is more of an appropriate name): I had it working then realized that balls were getting jammed up in it again. Not just stuck on the top center tulip this time. When you go to put it back together, make sure the bottom white arm can go all the way down easily. You can ensure this by possibly adjusting the tulip pins so that the left and right ones aren't impeding the the center tulip pin from going all the way down and vice versa.
Again, good luck with your playfield.

Here is a shot with the ball stuck and the middle tulip arm above the mechanics arm. The front of the pachinko is coming along and I'm ready to install the back (if I can figure this out).IMG_5227.jpgIMG_5228.jpg
