It's a simple design. Not very attractive but from people who had them. They worked. I can understand the original price being high due to R&D but resale value higher than original. But it is in Hawaii. So maybe it comes with a coconut.

I think they were around $150 when they were first available. When Frank stopped making them, they went up to about $250-300. They're good, I've got a couple of them and have never had any problems with them, but I'm not sure they're $575 good.

Still it's a sellers market with ball lifters at the moment. The orange Japanese ball lifters seem to be advertised at about 3 times what I paid for mine.

Always wanted one of those and definitely need one more ball lifter to finish a project. At that price though it just does not make sense for me.

    Hello,

original price was 89.- Euro plus shipping 11.- Euro or so. Honestly, for $550 I would build you Balldozers day and night. That's too much. I heard a guy from the Netherlands is trying to build them again, together with Jan. He just asked me if I allow him to use the "original" name wich is very nice of him. Hope they went well, I have no shares in this project.

This one is not built by me. I can see it on the wire color and some parts.

Hi guys, I’m the dutch guy Berzerk is talking about.
The start was slow, but I have succesfully built 4 dozers.
1st was the prototype to study building. Now 1 have 2 ready for Jan of Dragonfly Amusement and 1 for sale.
Now I’m going to start working on pre fabrication to build more in 2019.
I have a page on facebook called Pachinko Balldozer to stay updated on the lifters.
If anyone is interested in them, that’s the place to be.

Hi, I made 4 up to now and it came to my attention the failsafe didn’t work.
Does anyone have more details on that? I have not been able to find the .65A ptc and got a .75A instead
Could that be the problem and should I go for .60 instead?
Any detailed photos of the wiring maybe?
I have to recall all 3 dozers that were sold because of that.
Unfortunately my prototype worked perfect but now 1 got jammes and the motor overheated without triggering the buzzer.

If I remember correctly... The PTC is in line with the supply to the motor and the buzzer is in parallel with the PTC. In normal operation the PTC is low resistance and there's no significant voltage across it, when the motor stalls the current through the PTC causes it to heat up and raises it's resistance, and so there will now be enough voltage dropped across the PTC to protect the motor windings from overheating, and also this increased voltage across the PTC happens to be enough for the buzzer wired in parallel to sound.

You need to measure the normal running current of the motor (under a range of 'normal' loads), and then measure the stall current. You can use these values to select a suitable PTC by checking _ALL_ the parameters on it's data sheet. Just matching current ratings between two different suppliers of PTC doesn't mean that they will both trip at the same point in any given application circuit.

This is something that should be correctly selected and then tested and qualified during the design phase as it's a safety critical part. If you then want to swap parts or even use essentially the same part from a different manufacturer, you need to repeat the selection, testing and qualification to ensure the replacement part is suitable.

If you can't do the measurements and the calculations needed to design this properly, then you could have a 'guess' at it by buying a range of values and then doing some experiments to find the most suitable one that doesn't trip under normal use, but will if the motor is jammed. But without checking the data sheets (for both the motor and the PTC), and doing the calculations required, you only really know that the PTC you actually tested is suitable for the actual motor you tested it with. But you won't know for sure if another identical one from the same manufacturer (but slightly different due to manufacturing tolerances) will work correctly with a different example of the motor.
