    Default Newly acquired Nishijin

I just picked this Nishijin up yesterday locally. It's a partially done custom restoration. After some initial cleaning, the front looks great. Still needs some work to redo the wiring/lighting and to replace a couple missing cover plates. I love the look.

    A very nice looking find

I like wave and the rising sun flag although the flag and Mt. Fuji are more exaggerated here. The wave artwork is referred to as follows from circa 1830.

The Great Wave off Kanagawa (神奈川沖浪裏 Kanagawa-oki nami ura, "Under a wave off Kanagawa"), also known as The Great Wave or simply The Wave, is a woodblock print by the Japanese ukiyo-e artist Hokusai.

At least it's not " The Dream of the Fisherman's Wife"

    That would cause a stir.

It's probably not safe for work even if it is classic art.

    Anyhow. Nice looking machine

Yes exactly. I've always liked that print. The play field is very well done too. Looks great even up close.

I don't have a picture, but the machine is a 1975 Shiori-Kamome (White Bird) Nishijin B Ebira (nemesis of Godzilla). You can see the white bird insignia above and to the left of the ashtray. It does look like it has a later upper front tray style (1977 style), however, I've seen a few examples of original Ebiras and they are all like this, so I don't think any of the parts are from different pachinkos.

Here's an example of what it would have looked like with the original play field: http://pachinkoplanet.com/zencart/in...roducts_id=176

Here's a picture of Ebira and Godzilla.

His claws alternate open/close on the pachinko. I'm guessing they are pockets, but I haven't tried them yet.

I put in a lot of work on this pachinko over the weekend. There was a bad jam in one of the lotuses so I had to take everything off of the back. Unfortunately it was all stapled, so I replaced the staples with screws while doing it to make future maintenance easier. Aside from the jam in the lotus there was also a jam from debris stuck in the feeder. Everything is cleaned and working now except the spoon arm sticks sometimes about half way down.

I had that issue, and it was something stuck in the lower feeder assembly above. Jiggle the spoon assembly bar and follow it up. See if the plastic parts hanging down from the feeder chutes are even. If not, that is your issue. I ran a few jackpots holding the part back and it ran perfectly so I knew the problem was there.

Clean there and see. Only repeating what I was helpfully told here.

Check the payout mech as well. Dirty and sticky pivot points often cause problems like this. Always clean and dry, no lubrication please.

Finally got it working. Turns out the spoon arm was slightly bent in a way that was catching. I just bent it back with a little extra for clearance and it works without issue now.

Turns out the fix I did only worked intermittently and then started failing. I ended up disassembling the entire mechanism and rebuilding it using another pachinko I bought for parts for $30 that had the covers and wiring I was missing from this one. The jackpot mech was the culprit here. Once I replaced it, everything worked very smoothly. I also got the lights working and wired up a 9v battery. Had to resolder all the joints and swap polarity on a couple of the sockets.

So this restoration is nearly complete, save for one thing.

    Here's my question:

    20200506_142706_resized.jpg

In this diagram I circled two areas in red. One looks like it has mounts for another switch, but there isn't anything obvious that would connect to it, save for the nearby lever that shuts off the ball feeder when the hopper is empty. Is that the case? Also the lower area I circled clearly has a mounting space for another light - and there is a red plastic globe inside. It looks opposite the window on the ball feeder itself, so I'm assuming the intent is for this light to signify that the hopper is empty and the feeder has been shut off. This is the same as the top right light that is turned on with the switch below the top track.

So are my assumptions correct? Is the intent here for this to be a redundant switch and light to signify that the hopper is empty? I got a light mount from another scrap pachinko and added it there, and would like to add the mount, but as I have no mechanism from which to hook this switch up, I was going to piggy back it off of the other hopper empty light. That's a long run of wire though, and I'd prefer to do this the "stock" way.

    Thoughts?

You are correct, but some models have another switch for a 2 stage win light setup. The lower extra low ball light is normally piggy backed off the upper switch.
