Default Locomotive D51 stuck in the station...

Hello all, new to Pachitalk but have been lurking and have a growing collection of pachinko machines.

My latest acquisition is a fair bit different than any of the others I have, and quite frankly I have no idea how it is supposed to function. It is a Nishijin D51, locomotive themed machine. Based on what I read and viewed, it is a B type Nishijin.

It came with what I assume is a transformer, and an AC plug. There is also another hunk of vintage electronics which probably does not work. My guess is that it powers the lights behind the locomotive center attraction as well as the solenoid which operates a gate which is part of the center attraction.

I can power up the unit, and the jackpot light and low ball light seem to work correctly. Other switches, mentioned below, don't seem to do anything. I took a voltage reading at one of the light bulbs and it seems the machine runs on 13 volts AC...??? I get no reading when my multimeter is set to DC...

Here are my main questions, at the moment:

    1. What makes the solenoid fire? i.e. which target needs to be hit?

    2. There is a micro-switch in the center attraction--what does it do?

3 There is a micro-switch at the very end of the ball path which is made whenever a jackpot ball exits the machine--what does it do?

    4. Like most pachinkos, there are 2 tulips directly below the main attraction, with the top one inaccessible to balls unless open. This machine has the same setup, but there is no apparent path through the center attraction to open the tulip in the first place...if it matters, the tulip directs the ball to the right as one faces the machine. I have a sneaking suspicion 2 or more tulips have been swapped...

Any and all help appreciated. Pictures to be uploaded later.

    Thanks in advance!

nothing wrong with a D51 although I have a model of a Class 96 with a picture of one on the wall covered in school girls in sailor suits

anyhow, please can you post a picture front and back. please keep them under 2 MB or use an image hosting site.

    is it this one?

if so getting a ball in the bottom pockets labelled 1 or 2 should trigger the solenoid for a split second (as can be seen in the video) then the idea is to get a ball in the centre V pocket.

    Its a hanemono style machine

a few pictures would be a great help..

most true vintage machine dont require power but if there is a solenoid your machine will require power.. machine that require power usually need 10 volts for the lights and 24 volts for the other features...

    looking forward to seeing it

The one pictured here is what I have.

I'm waiting on my camera battery to charge, so pics have to wait.

As it turns out, I answered all my questions myself.

Under some crud, an ON/OFF switch was hiding on what can only be described as a primitive computer--the vintage electronics I referenced before.

    3. The micro-switch at the end of the ball path is a counter; the center attraction counts up 1, 2, 3 with individual grain of wheat bulbs illuminating after each jackpot; upon the
    third jackpot...

    1. ...the solenoid fires, opening gates along the lines of a tulip opening.

    2. Once the gates are opened, two balls down the center attraction trip the switch, closing the gates.

    4. The tulip is accessible when closed, but the path is obscured by the center attraction.

It takes three, and sometimes four more jackpots before the center attraction starts counting up to open the gates. I don't know if that is normal behavior or not. I couldn't detect a pattern.

I think of the 7 machines I have, this one is most suited for a complete restoration. It works, but the play field is stained and it is missing one grain of wheat bulb.

Has anyone created a refit kit with more "solid state" electronics?

That is a sweet machine, but mine is definitely a vintage unit...

Note the lack of black markings on 2 tulips, and the fact that this arrangement is asymmetrical...they appear to work correctly though...

I should mention that I have the covers for the jackpot dispenser and jackpot linkage. They are undergoing UV treatment to see if the yellowing can be cleared up...that is, they are sitting in the sun for a while...

Not pictured is a homemade lower track cover.

No, but if I get one of these, I may try and make one. Shouldn't be extremely difficult.
