    Default Vintage Mizuho

I'm picking up a vintage Mizuho locally in a couple days, to try a vintage machine and have some fun with the restoration.

I'm new to pachinkos in general. These pics look pretty good (to me) and I see a lot of potential here. I've compared it to other pics of this model and I'm not seeing anything glaringly absent or broken in the back, save for the power connector (I'm planning to wire up a 9v battery).

Is there anything I should be concerned about that I'm not considering that someone with a more experienced eye can spot here? Any tips in general would be appreciated. I'm doing a lot of learning but I don't know what I don't know at this point.

    Thank you!

I'm more into the moderns myself but that looks like a nice machine! I like the green filled play field. The only damage I spot is what looks to be a bad corner perhaps on the upper front tray? Not a deal breaker in my mind.

I wish you the best with restoring it

Hard to say if the upper track cover is missing or not. I think I see it. If not I can make you a repop one as I just had to make one a few weeks ago for a machine I recently restored.

    100 machines and counting...

That's a good catch. I bet I can patch that with some plastic filler, sand, and repaint it.

    Update:

I picked up the machine today. The track cover is actually there (score!).

After clearing out a large bearing stuck on the playfield and some ball blockages in the mechanism, I tried it out and everything works great. I cleaned it for about an hour and got it looking a lot better, though it will need a disassembly and deep clean and polish. I think I understand most of the workings of the mechanism. The only thing I couldn't get to happen was a jackpot payout, though I was able to manually eject winning balls out the rear and get the jackpot to reload. I'm guessing the machine needs power for the jackpots? I didn't wire up a battery to test that theory, but I generally see how the momentary switches and lights will operate.

Power is only for lights, system is purely mechanical. There is a system that stops payout if there aren't enough balls. If you look at the picture you posted of the rear, directly to the right of the center, there are two 'S' shaped white pieces (kinda more like an 'L' with a droop at the end ). These unlatch the payout when the upper hopper is full or nearly full.

Hm. I noticed balls queuing up through that mechanism but they never dispensed. I was assuming rewards would be dispensed when the targets were hit. I was repeatedly loading the center goal manually on the playfield and no jackpot was triggered. Does it have to reach some threshold before it pays out?

I did notice that the hopper has to have enough balls to enable shooting, and the upper ramp lanes have to be full to disengage the jackpot lock. The ramp wasn't consistently loading evenly though so perhaps only some adjustment is needed. I'll take another look. Thanks for the input.

You need to have about 100 pachinko balls in the top hopper?

I was able to get it fully working. The issue with the jackpot was due to a slight misalignment with the upper track. Balls were getting stuck in one of the lanes and it wasn't fully unlocking the jackpot mechanism.

Nice looking machine! And yea, I just ran into something like that with the Sankyo I'm finishing up.

I had put the upper ramp back in where it was when I got it, but I noticed I had to move the ball tray down to align with it. The balls would stall out sometimes and not go down the ramp, despite being well cleaned.

So I moved the ball tray back up, as high as it would go, and aligned the upper ramp with the new position. Only about 5-6mm, but enough where the balls didn't stop when they came down the ramp.

Vintage machines are all very subtle engineering, very balanced, very light mechanisms.
