I went to this parlor a couple years ago and posted some photos here; http://www.pachitalk.com/forums/show...ight=Smartball

It was a ton of fun and the woman from the article was very friendly and chatted with me quite a while. Mr.G is correct, that is a wall of arrangeball machines, but unfortunately many of them are inoperable. Well worth the time to pop in if you’re in Asakusa while they are open.

The kids really enjoy the game in the video. Love all the happy faces! It would be awesome to have a couple at a public arcade here.

I stopped back in again last month. They are still open a couple days a week. Fun for the kids and the adults. I had a blast.

I love when they show Smart Ball parlour rooms and you notice that every Arrangeball in Japan seems to be in there as well on the back walls.

All this talk about Smart balls, and vintage machines elsewhere, has got me itching to play them again.

I just hope I can convince the dear wifey and child to go venturing out, and see this stuff.

Senso-ji Temple is very close to the smartball parlor in Asakusa. Schedule that site as an early Saturday afternoon stop and then you're a 5-10 minute walk from playing smartball and arrangeball machines. There are also a couple modern parlors within a block of the smartball parlor.

Were smart ball parlors popular in Tokyo at some point? Were there many of them in those times?

    Yes they were.

Not sure exactly how many of course, but like Arrangeballs, these were far more popular in the vintage years of the 80's, and well before.
