    Default "From Japan" Updates

Here comes another increase in some shipping costs starting in April 2018 per their website:
    https://www.fromjapan.co.jp/en/news#news_180319

18.03.19 - Important Notice: Changes in FedEx and DHL shipping rates NEW!
Due to rate increases from our shipping partners, we unfortunately need to adjust our rates for some shipping methods.
We apologize for any inconvenience and appreciate your understanding.

    Shipping methods: FedEx (Economy), DHL
    Rate increase: 5-10%
This change will apply to all Charge 2 invoices sent out after April 1, 2018 at 00:00(JST).

For customers considering purchasing large items (FedEx Freight shipments), we recommend getting an estimate before ordering, as the shipping fees may be expensive.

Thanks, Pete. I just received a new machine yesterday. Total weight was about 104 pounds and had to be broken into two shipments (they shipped the front door off the frame). Total cost (not including cost of machine) to California was about 500 USD for FedEx delivery.

I use FromJapan all the time for my music business. I really wish they would create a rank above Shogun. I'm currently sitting pretty with almost 3x the number of points needed for Shogun.
My two biggest shipments were this month's (arriving tomorrow!), and Nov 2015. This month's had one machine and the rest was Jrock and VK CDs/goods, 250lbs, six boxes, and $960 to ship. The 2015 shipment was a whopping ~5000 CDs, 16 boxes, over 2000lbs, and about $2200 to ship.
Im so appreciative of the 10% off external shipping Shogun gives me. FedEx has been amazing.

Sounds about like what mine have cost depending on the carrier and direction traveled. Seems the Fed-Ex comes across Alaska most often and DHL stops in South Korea on the way. Make some stops for fuel and fill those planes to the max with cargo is the way to fly and make a buck.

What machine did you get, if I may ask.

Not sure how this is different but could be more risky. At the moment you can add to the deposit with CC or PayPal. Bidding straight to CC a bit to risky/tempting to me.

I agree and I plan to stick to the deposit method which works just fine for me.

Can I really expect to pay almost $500 for one machine to be shipped over?

Yep or close to it depending on weight.
If shipped by sea then it may be substantially cheaper but will take weeks and I don’t believe there’s tracking offered.

Jesus, I bid on one that ended. The price was very reasonable with free domestic shipping. It’s en-route to them now.

But you choose an option that they provide right?

Well, before bidding you should always have all the facts and know exactly what sort of shipping they provide but it’s going to be either sea or air. Air is very expensive and by sea may or may not be an option depending on your proxy bidder.

Ah I see, well lesson learned on my end, like I said I still don't know for sure, they haven't received it yet. I used their estimation tool, and it was showing right at $300 for the shipping which was semi-reasonable because the price was right on the machine itself.

There are lots of examples of weights and box sizes in the FromJapan thread. If you would like to add to it when you know. It helps others. You can hide what you paid for the machine, just put the charge 2 total down.

I see, I was thinking you had no idea of shipping costs before you bid and then found out that it can be quite spendy. If you used the estimation tool then hopefully there will be no surprises.

    Clam, I will do that.
Emma, yeah I was aware that it was going to be really high, I was just thinking somewhere around the $300 dollar area, when I saw $500, that took me back a bit lol.

All it takes is for the box size to increase a few inches and the price shots up. Always best to over estimate, then you don't get a big shock
