Default How are balls to react after hitting bumper?

Hi, working on my first machine. Special thanks to Max for actually calling me in response to an email. What a great community
    of kind folks!
Is there a recommended way for the balls to bounce off of the bumper, or is it just a personal preference? The one I have
seems to just bounce a little bit and not go back toward the left side of the playfield at all. I saw someone use a cut up superball,
that must bounce back quite a bit.
or could it be a spring issue that is not shooting the ball hard enough? thanks

The bumper's not there to force the balls back to the left, that's what the pin below the shooting lever is for. You put that pin between two fingers (the two after your thumb I think, haven't played a vintage in a while) and by rotating your hand around that pin you can vary how far the shooting lever goes down and therefore how far the ball goes into the play-field. Rotated clockwise, shoots to the right, counterclockwise, shoots more to the left. Older games didn't even have a bumper, so you couldn't just flip the lever willy-nilly.

agreed please quit beating up your bumper..

I set my spring tension so that if you give it a full pull the ball will hit the bumper, but that is max. then i can control how and where the ball lands based on how far i pull the lever.. counting on the rubber bumper to rebound the balls is inconsistent and will just wear out the bumper... super balls work for a rebound bumper but no they do not give anything super extra on the rebound...

    and of course

Usually I set machines to the center hole of the adjustment tab. This gives you a lot of control of the ball by adjusting how far you pull the shooter. But if you plan to have many little ones playing it you might want to set it a little softer, as they will always pull the shooter all the way down.

Here is a picture pointing to the adjustment tab. This machine is set on the softest setting.
