Default What a difference a day makes

Before and after of some pachinko balls that came with my recent purchase.

24 hours in the tumbler with walnut shells and mother's mag polish.

The picture doesn't do it justice, but the difference is unreal.

That's quite a difference. How many can you tumble in each batch? Did you use a drum tumbler like those ones at Harbor Freight?

The double drum tumbler from Harbor Freight is what I use. I don't count how many go in each drum, but I filled each about 1/3 of the way which is roughly 250 - 300 balls.

So running the two drums for 24 hours, it's roughly 500 - 600 per day. I did this for 4 days with no problems.

    Update...

I finished tumbling all the newer pachinko balls that I had, and decided it was time to move on to all those old neglected ones. You know, all the ones that come with all those neglected machines you so diligently seek out to add to your collection?

I found out that the little black plastic stop tabs that come on the harbor freight tumbler aren't worth a crap after a while, and needed a solution to keep the drum from rubbing on the frame.

Came across a cool video on youtube, about using shower door wheels and L-brackets. I won't link the video cause the pictures are self explanitory.

Nice simple mod that really makes a big difference in reducing noise/friction.

Pic of the old neglected ones (I have about 3000 that need tumbled and graded). You can see some of them are straight up trash.

Pic of the mod. Only one wheel on the motor end because I didn't want to cut the plates over the motor. You can see where it was rubbing on the lids.

Your machines will thank you too in the long run. The state of some balls I've played through and the frequency of a jam or a block is unreal. Nothing beats pearly golds and silvers.

Update to the Great Pachi Ball sorting of 2019.

So far I have tumbled just over 10,000 pachi balls.

Over 9000!! *har, har* grade A balls, and 1,133 what I would call grade B or below. *This is based on weighing them out at 5.5 grams per ball.*

Still have a long way to go... I want to re-tumble the B's again once I get everything else done.

What's cool is all the different parlour designs and manufacturer logos. Everything from A to Zed in there.

LOL! Thanks for that! I'm not one who is concerned with engravings, so I didn't bother to keep track of them. If you are looking for something in particular, I can keep a lookout.

When I get done with all these dang balls, I have 20 machines worth of tokens to do. So it's a challenge.
