    Default Sparks! My Venom smokes.

Ok, so I plugged in to the transformer, plugged the transformer into outlet, turned on power to outlet, game off, flash and smoke came out the back. What did I do wrong and what do I do now?
Resized_20180223_093724_4853.jpegThis is the area that sparked and smoked.
Resized_20180223_093714_5005.jpeg This is the original transformer that had been working with this game.
First the inline fuse from the transformer blew. I checked voltage output, 26v+-.
Replaced same fuse, game power switch off, turned on outlet and that's when the fireworks happened.

Oh, and how do I get the dang clips to release the cover over the panel?

Without seeing all the transformer connections. I don't know. You said it was working before though. So you didn't change any of the wiring?

Of course I should point out that's a 100v transformer not a 110. So you are running at 10% higher voltage than spec. Which is why you have 26.4v coming out the transformer not 24v the machine runs on.

The 'cover' on the pachinko's power supply board is usually a full enclosure, so you have to remove the board/enclosure completely from the machine before you can disassemble it.

Where was the inline fuse for the transformer that blew? Was it on the 110v side or the 24v side of the transformer, and what was it's rating?

The 100v/110v or 26v/24v difference shouldn't matter as the pachinko's PSU board is usually a switch mode power supply and can cope with a slightly higher voltage, but the 10% higher voltage can leave the machine more susceptible to surges or power spikes.

If the power switch on the game was definitely off when the magic smoke was released, then it's likely that the damaged part was part of the filter/protection circuitry and may be repairable. If the switch was on, then it might be more complicated and it might be simpler to source a replacement power supply board.

First step is to remove the PSU board from the pachinko, take the case off and get us some pictures of both sides of the board. We should then be able to advise on where to look next and what measurements you can make with a multimeter to determine what has failed.

Most of our door units had a switching power supply on them, One unit after about 2 years of working. It started outputing 42vdc instead of the 35vdc it was meant to, so fried the processor board

It sounds like you have a shorted capacitor. Fuse blew out the first time, and capacitor popped the second time.

How do the clips release? Is there a trick to pop open? I've pried, poked, and cussed at them but no joy.

Switch was off. The fuse was on the 24v side. I believe it was an 8 amp.

It's also possible that you have a dead short across the switch. Hopefully someone here can give you some direction on removing the cover.
