Default Beast Sapp / Eleco reel LED alternative fix

Digging through the archives, seems like even those that have taken the trouble to re-do the LEDs on the reels have found that they sometimes go out again.

I went an alternative route - i know some may consider this a bit ghetto-fab - and used surface mount LEDs with pre-attached adhesive and wires.

I removed all the reels, disassembled the LED board holder, and attached 4 LEDs - 2 on the top, 2 on the bottom. I ran the wires out the reel, up through the rear vents, and wired them all together to a separate 12v 1a ac adapter. (I use surge protectors with individual outlet control via alexa, so easy enough to just create a group for this machine, and group "beast sapp"as both the machine and the reel lighting.

Anyway, came out flawlessly. My phone was overexposing, so it's a bit hard to gauge the "unlit" photo - trust me that every single LED is out

I did my best to snap a pic of the LEDs with the reels installed - you can barely see them, which is great.

Can you post the part identification for the SMD LEDs you used? I haven't re-approached this in a long time and those newer SMD LEDs (with a lower profile than the Piranhas) weren't readily available back then. Thank you!

Interesting.. how are you mounting this into the reels?
I have a Nadesico Pachi that the reel bulbs are all dead and I cannot find replacement bulbs..
I was going to convert to LED but that is turning into a project.

They have a bit of 3m tape preapplied on the back, I just stuck them right on top of the old leds

doesn't sound like this is going to work for me.

I have no place to mount the LED.. I probably would need to solder an LED to the reel bulb board in order for this to work.

Do you have any information on the bulbs, or images of the bulbs and sockets? Perhaps we can help source a direct replacement as there are many replacement LED bulb options now for various coin op games that may work.

OK, I was thinking that these (like on my machines) would be two piece "wedge" bulbs #400 (for the big 'uns) and #85 for the subminiature small ones. (this is where the bulb comes out of the base that screws into the board). There are LED replacements for those exact bulb sizes in 28vdc as well.

If it's an "all-in-one" bulb (i.e. the bulb is wired and soldered in directly to the base) then I am thinking you could either McGuyver it by yanking out the dead bulb and attaching a new wedgie bulb with a little artful drilling and soldering perhaps. OR If it's possible that the base is the same as Instrument panel lights (but matching the voltage is going to be harder unless the led accepts variable voltage - as some do).

Unless maybe you can substitute a different twist base that accepts the subminiature wedge bulbs.

I think, however, Stealth Amusements may sell the replacements you are looking for if they resemble these: http://stealthhome.stores.yahoo.net/t5buforsaty.html
