i use 000 or 0000 steel wool on the chrome..

the used to be a rubber dampener that was under the chrome strip.. often it gets broken and removed (your is 80% removed) if you look there is a second nail on the left side where it was hooked..

the extra hole and ramp are for other variations.. some machines have a foul hole instead of a rubber bumper at the top right.. that part on you machine is exactly what your speculated.. there just in case..

as for the door some are just harder to close... its a steel door screwed into a wood frame.. probably not 100% sq some machine close like a safe some like yours need a little extra tap to close.. adding weight like two pieces of glass instead of plexi will help that..

    was that all your questions??

the steel wool will not remove the rust or make things smooth.. there is a post somewhere about powder coating frames.. new chrome is expensive.. powder coating can look great depending on the color chosen..

The chrome trim will never look like it originally did no matter how you clean it. An old trick for removing rust spots from firearms without damaging the remaining finish is to let the rust spots soak up some oil for a day or two, then use the edge of a nickel to rub the rust off. The method will take the rust off, but the chrome that has been displaced by the rust will still be gone.

I figured out what the mystery ramp in my above video is for.
