Default Wood used for frame of 1972-73 Nishijin Model B

Do we have any carpenters in the forum? I'm still in the process of disassembling my 1972-73 Nishijin Model B for restoration. Once I got the frame removed for sanding, I used polyurethane to reseal it. I really liked the look of the wood when I was done. I want to make my custom wall case out of the same wood so that it matches. Does any know what kind of wood was used for the frame of these machines?

Thank you! It is a Nishijin C; Centre feature reads: Indian Uso Tukanai, which translates to Indians do not tell a lie.

It is japanese mahogany very difficult to find and actually quite expensive.

I know a member or two who sold off frames to carpenters in exchange for custom built cases (out of lesser woods). It is really nice tight grain wood.

It is hard to match, as typical US mahogany usually is much darker (less red) and wider grain. I'd say the closet you might get would be an african mahogany. But here again hard to find and expensive. Certainly is hard to find in my neck of the woods. If I still lived in SoCal I know of a place that would have it in stock or could get it in.

Stand corrected it is Meranti which is called Philippine Mahogany

Other material name it is normally known as is Lauan. (available in plywood form at most home improvement stores but not near the same quality.)
